Along with these ideas and emotions,  it creates a visual language that becomes pleasing to the eye. An example would be during the Baroque period, paintings would often have a  religious theme due to the Reformation led by Martin Luther and the Counter-Reformation led by the Catholic Church. However, a painting can also have no subject such as the case in an abstract painting. I also learned about the different painting techniques used by famous painters in creating their works such as the chiaroscuro, which is the combination of lights and shadows. This technique also gives more depth and meaning to the painting. An example would be Rembrandt's "The Jewish Bride" wherein the high values are found within the couple and the low values are found around the couple. Rembrandt did this to highlight the intimate love between the couple.
