We love to see the work each member of our group does. I loved seeing an innovative animation structure for a data sheet made by a community partner.

We do not have dedicated funding for our SEOW. We once did through an SPF grant, and the provider that was originally funded to lead to SEOW has just continued to do so with limited bandwidth, mainly because no one else wants to take the lead on it if there isn't funding attached to it. And we have general funding challenges for Prevention grants, so we can't easily find ways to fund the SEOW.

Removed from service-level data

Working at state level, we are often two levels removed from direct service. While our regional centers provide Direct TA to communities around prevention, we don't often get data from these community partners and coalitions around prevention activities. Missing this data leaves out a huge part of the story of prevention across the state.

Our SEOW's membership is evolving since it was first created in the early 2000s. We are now in the process of identifying who/how we can bring in newer data gatekeepers and stakeholders, and orienting them into the workgroup goals, membership roles and shared tasks.

We provide quarterly data briefs on substance misuse problem behaviors/topics. We also created a cross tabs webpage that allows us to run cross tab reports for any question on our statewide youth survey.

Difficulty maintaining ongoing stakeholder investment. There is initial interest, but it tends to wain over time.

We struggle to find purpose for our SEOW. Our contractor provides all the products, so our SEOW meetings have become a data presentation meeting, and members are losing interest in only attending to see a presentation. We are trying to figure out how the workgroup can become a workgroup again, and what they can provide to our system fill data gaps across the state.

We increased our collection of demographics identifiers in prevention-focused activities by over 50% in the last 2 years through ongoing TA!

Our SEOW includes policy leaders so the conversion of data reports into actionable items is discussed within the workgroup almost instantly. Recently some funding was appropriated for our nicotine (tobacco/ENDS/betel nut) cessation services that's been underfunded, which was a result of data reported within the SEOW.
