The Constitution is in several different parts that together outline the structure of American government. In the preamble is declaring the fact to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure tranquility, promote the general Welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves.

The Constitution is based on the principle of federalism. It is a political direction which is a supporter of a system with a union of federal states with one government. In every state there is executive power, judicial power and the ruling power.

Changes or amendments in the Constution can be added if 67% of the majority in Congress and 75% in the states. It is extremely difficult in the process of proposing and passing new amendments and that is why only 27 amendments have been made to the Constitution. The first ten of them are known as the Bill of Rights. It is usually regarded as the most important feature of American democracy.

In 1865 the war ended, the southern states were forced to rejoin the American government. So, a series of constitutional amendments were passed. They were called “the Reconstruction Amendments”, which outlawed slavery and provided citizenship to all Americans.
