1) The purpose of this article was to show how Elizabeth got to where we know her today as.

2)Elizabeth Coleman, one of 13 children, grew up in Waxahatchie, Texas. Because she was so smart mathematically, she was freed from slaving around. Instead, she went to a college and worked as a manicurist before realizing she had an interest in aviation. Because of discrimination against colored people, her attempt to get into aviation schools were denied. She decided to go to France and get her education in aviation. She then became the first African American woman to get a pilot's license. When she returned to the U.S., she wasn't allowed to become a commercial pilot because of prejudice so she stuck to stunt flying.

3) Intended audience: People wanting to know more on her upbringing.

4) Rhetorical appeal: Logos; It was effective by helping the reader learn more about Bessie Coleman's life before becoming a pilot.

5) The source helps define the topic.
