Hawthorne is making a connection between an actual pearl and Hester's daughter because both come from dark, disgusting places. A pearl can be found on the inside of a slimy oyster or other bivalve mollusk, while Pearl, in the book, comes from "the rank luxuriance of a guilty passion" pg. 59.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>The Father?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dimmesdale will be revealed as the father. When Hawthorne wrote in chapter 3,<br> "It irks me, nevertheless, that the partner of her iniquity should not, at least, stand on the scaffold by her side. But he will be known!- he will be known!- he will be known!"<br>, he does this purposefully. He is using this not as a sign of intensity but as a tool to foreshadow the father. The repetition of "he will be known" 3 times, shows that the father is somewhat divine, or at least has somewhat a connection to religion.  This can be assumed due to the Holy <strong>Trinity </strong>of God the Father, Jesus the son, and the Holy Spirit. </div>]]></description>
