제목:Can BRICS Break the Dollar’s Dominance? :The rise of a new currency vision—and the tensions it brings to global trade

내용: BRICS—an alliance of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—is accelerating its efforts to challenge the dominance of the US dollar. By proposing a joint digital currency and a new payment system, BRICS aims to reduce dependency on the dollar and establish a more multipolar financial system.

One of the key motivations behind this move is the way the United States uses the dollar as a weapon of influence, particularly through economic sanctions. For instance, when Russia invaded Ukraine, it was swiftly cut off from the dollar-based SWIFT system. BRICS countries view this as a warning: reliance on the dollar can make them vulnerable to geopolitical pressure.Advocates for the BRICS initiative argue that a new currency system could improve financial inclusion (bringing banking services to people who currently lack access), give smaller countries more economic autonomy, and rebalance global trade dynamics. This move could also allow developing economies to strengthen their positions without being dependent on Western institutions like the IMF or World Bank.

However, the path forward is far from easy. Political friction between China and India, differing economic policies, and internal instability in some member states present major obstacles to creating a unified currency or effective financial block.

Adding to the tension, former US President Donald Trump recently stated on social media that the US should impose 100% tariffs on goods from any country attempting to create a new global reserve currency. If acted upon, this could spark a new round of trade wars, further destabilizing global markets and inflaming economic nationalism.

In the end, BRICS' challenge to the dollar represents more than just a financial shift—it symbolizes a broader desire among emerging powers to reshape the global order. Whether they succeed or not, their efforts have already opened up urgent conversations about fairness, power, and control in the world economy.

FIRST HIGH SCHOOL TRAINING CAMP

In early April, I participated in a three-day, two-night school retreat. Although preparing for the trip required some effort, it was a meaningful opportunity to spend time with classmates outside the classroom.

On the first day, we engaged in cooperative team games between classes. Working together with students I had not interacted with often allowed me to develop stronger bonds and recognize the value of collaboration.

The second day included a visit to the Begonia Garden in Gapyeong, where I experienced the beauty of nature through various flowers and plants. Observing the colorful landscapes and sharing the experience with friends helped me appreciate both the richness of nature and the importance of leisure in learning.

On the final day, we returned to school with a sense of fulfillment. Although brief, the retreat provided valuable lessons in teamwork and friendship, and it created lasting memories that will positively influence my school life.

Veterinarians: Guardians of Animal Health

As the presence of pets in daily life grows, so does the importance of veterinary care. In South Korea, approximately 28% of households raised companion animals last year, demonstrating how deeply animals are integrated into human lives. However, like humans, animals also suffer from illnesses and require medical attention, making veterinarians indispensable in safeguarding their health.

Veterinarians play a crucial role in preventing, diagnosing, and treating injuries and diseases in animals. Additionally, they contribute to veterinary medicine through research on animal illnesses, treatments, and pharmaceuticals. Becoming a veterinarian requires rigorous education—students must complete six years of veterinary studies and pass the national licensing exam. Yet, beyond academic qualifications, a true veterinarian must possess a deep love for animals and a strong sense of dedication to their well-being.

Veterinary medicine encompasses various specializations, including small animal veterinarians, large animal veterinarians, and aquatic animal veterinarians. Among them, zoo veterinarians stand out for their unique opportunity to work with exotic species such as rhinoceroses, monkeys, and giraffes. While treating and managing numerous animals can be physically demanding, witnessing their recovery and vitality can bring immense satisfaction.

Veterinarians are more than medical professionals—they are protectors of animal health, ensuring that creatures of all kinds continue to thrive.

What is a veterinarian? It refers to preventing, diagnosing, and treating animal diseases and injuries. As more and more people regard their pets as family, there is also a growing interest in veterinarians who protect the health of animals. What does a veterinarian do? Veterinarians are not just jobs that treat at animal hospitals. Veterinarians work in various fields such as farms, zoos, research institutes, and public institutions, and play an important role in the health of both humans and animals. It manages the health of not only pets such as dogs and cats, but also livestock such as cows, pigs, and chickens, and prevents animal infectious diseases. In particular, the role of veterinarians is very important in preventing diseases that can affect people, such as avian influenza and African swine fever. How to become a veterinarian? To become a veterinarian, you must go to a veterinary college after graduating from high school, and after going through about 6 years of professional education, you must obtain a veterinary license through a national examination. After that, you can choose various career paths such as opening a hospital, going to graduate school, and being a civil servant and veterinarian. Kim Ji-young, a veterinarian who runs an animal hospital in Seoul, said, "Animals can't speak, so they should be carefully observed and diagnosed." "Sometimes there are times when symptoms need to be analyzed like investigators." Or he emphasized that "not only love for animals, but also responsibility for life is a very important job." Recently, the demand for veterinarians is steadily increasing with the increase in the number of pet populations and social interest in animal welfare. In addition, the field of activity of veterinarians is expanding to the diversification of animal diseases due to climate change, wildlife management, and food safety.

Think about science. Your legs and hands will tremble as you feel the cool sensation of taking the last test. I want to write this for 90% of these students and future dreamers.

Sprouts (first year of high school) must have a lot of questions. I've tried the first year of high school, but the options and content become more dynamic from the second year of high school.

Physics, chemistry, bioscience, earth science, and two other subjects, right? To help you learn smoothly, I will answer the questions you may be curious about.

Now, first of all, "Does science have to be memorized? Do we have to do it? Don't we understand it?"

You'll ask a lot of these questions, too. For science, memorization is right. Memorization is very inevitable. Understanding is only after memorization, and before that, it's like a blank slate. Memorabilia builds up and builds up, and in the latter part, you'll understand what you've used, and the cycle of memorizing what you've understood is repeated. Well, you may be able to take a test with only what you've already understood and get a few questions right, but you'll probably struggle three times with a high probability if you keep doing so.

Don't say in science, "Do I have to memorize this? Do I have to memorize this?" There is nothing important about it. Memorize all the small things written on the side. And since the memories of the things you memorized are temporary, it would be good to keep reviewing them, and then reviewing them to convert them into long-term memories.

Science-related career paths. Look around. 80% is science. The land you're standing on, the air you're breathing, the gravity you're working on, and even your body is an organism of many substances. With this wide range, of course, there are many related departments, and courses related to science are bound to be wide. Examples include geology, oceanography, chemistry, physics, and astronomy. If you are going to choose a science-related career, you can refer to which subjects made you happy and interested in learning. I hope you think carefully about it and decide.

The disaster at Muan International Airport on December 29, 2024, remains the darkest day in the history of Korean aviation. When Jeju Air Flight 7C2216 overran the runway and exploded, 179 lives were tragically lost. One year on, while the nation remembers the victims, a sobering reality is setting in: the memory and the call for accountability surrounding this massive tragedy are already fading, having been quietly buried from public consciousness.
The catastrophe was not a simple accident but a clear case of systemic failure, pointing directly to negligence. The critical RESA (Runway End Safety Area)—a space designed to allow aircraft to stop safely after an overrun—was severely inadequate. Instead, the area featured a Localizer mound, a deadly obstruction that experts believe caused the aircraft's fatal breach and subsequent explosion. Despite overwhelming evidence suggesting a failure to adhere to international safety standards, the ensuing investigation and the pursuit of accountability have lacked the sustained public scrutiny expected for a disaster of this magnitude.
The cries of the victims' families for an independent and transparent investigation have largely become a voice in the wilderness. Despite the scale of the loss, the vigorous public debate and sustained media attention necessary to enforce structural change quickly waned. This collective silence has been interpreted by many—especially the bereaved—as an attempt to contain the narrative and avoid confronting the underlying safety culture that prioritized efficiency over public well-being. The lack of proactive systemic reform in the year following the event underscores this dangerous complacency.
The Muan Airport disaster must not be allowed to remain a forgotten tragedy. The fact that such a monumental loss of life could so quickly slip from the national agenda is a testament to the persistent problem of safety apathy in South Korean society. The government must immediately re-examine safety standards at all airports, particularly regarding runway environments, and overhaul emergency response protocols. The sacrifice of the 179 victims must serve as a perpetual reminder that safety is non-negotiable, and the truth, though inconvenient, must never be buried.
