In my opinion, artificial intelligence (AI) is an advantage and a peril. Some advantages of AI involves consistent results and 24/7 availability. In the medical field, AI has helped to diagnose certain cancers and is able to accurately detect various diseases. This helps reduce medical errors and physicians workload. On the flip side, although AI programs have shown a high accuracy in diagnosing diseases, I’m afraid that physicians will totally rely on AI technology.

AI is definitely advantage for many things especially when it comes to times. You can easy have AI get work done very fast compared to a human. It very helpful in many different career fields. AI can also minimize error that can happen. While it does come with advantages it does come with disadvantages especially in schools and other places. Noel, I agree with your response. AI is replacing humans at an alarming rate. I was surprised when I went to the gas station and was unable to find a manned cash register. AI assists aging individuals with reminders to take their medication, monitor changes in their behavior or health, and even initiate emergency calls. AI devices also help with everyday tasks such as turning lights on and off, adjusting the temperature, and controlling appliances, and they provide aging individuals with the support they need to continue living independently. I was recently talking to one of my professors and they mentioned how students are using ChatGPT to do just that. They expressed the same sentiment as you that some students are now lacking the know-how to write.

I don't think the students realize that it will be them suffering in the end, not the professors.

Latanya, to be the devil's advocate. This does affect our economy, yet at the same time, employers are utilizing AI because, despite people saying they want employment, their actions speak differently. As a business owner, finding people who want to work is challenging. I believe that many have the sentiment, "Why go to work when I can make more from the government sitting at home." The government has assisted in people's laziness.

Just because control given to machines has the possibility of going haywire, people continue to find calmness and comfort in its utilization. Families tend to feel the advantage outweighs the possibility of the peril happening. For example, I know people who rely on AI to secure their homes and control the homes' temperature, removing thier ability to manually change their thermostat and lock their doors. When their home lost power for an extended period of time, it left their home unsecured and ridiculously cold. Despite going through that ordeal, they continue to use AI to secure and control their home.

Even though students might think they are getting the work done faster. But in reality they are cheating themselves from getting better. I struggle with my writing growing up and during those times CHATGPT didn't exist had to learn the fundamental of writing and organizing a essay. The other things that come with less manned Cash register is more shoplifting can happen. Most of the times self-checkout are usually always something happening with them. It sometimes feels much slower compared to a regular person working the cash register. The amount of job displacement that I have seen from places is very concerning. Look at Costco for an example you see more self checkouts compared to now. While for the company it has its benefits since the payroll is going to be less. But for the customers shopping there is much worse. Now we would have to do all the checking out compared to before. In my opinion I prefer regular people working the cash register because it is just a much faster process compared to having to do everything by myself. While Costco still has people working the cash register it is still concerning to seeing Costco using self checkouts.

There are some positive and negative aspects of AI in

other fields as well. For instance, AI is impacting the

food industry by assisting with transforming

agriculture, food manufacturing, and packaging. This can

be considered a positive as demands exceed supply in the food industry.

On the other hand, Tesla's AI-driven systems are a cause for concern as there

have been reported deaths associated with the autopilot feature.

In the movie Leave the World Behind, hackers hacked into the

A disadvantage of AI is not only the ability to imitate voices but also to imitate writing styles via catfishing. My grandmother was a victim of the voice over, and my great uncle was a victim of the catfishing. Costing both of them about $200- $300. As a computer engineer major, I find the AI topic very interesting. In my opinion I feel that AI is good because it has the ability of making everyone's lives easier. All though I understand that there is a fear of losing tons of jobs, I can't but feel that AI will go in the same direction as the ATM when it comes to jobs. People thought ATMs would make thousands of bank employees to lose their jobs, but it instead allowed banks to run more efficient at providing more accessible service to customers but also it created more jobs due to banks able to employ more people due to an increase in customers.

Also, I feel that the fact that younger students had to go to school entirely online during the pandemic had an impact on the student's intellectual abilities. I have a friend who installed who bought Alexa for her grandmother, and every time she visits she sets reminders on Alexa to remind her grandmother to take her medication.
