We started thinking about our main idea. We thought that if we have someone misinterpreting and being "racist" to people from different cultures it would 1 show different cultures and 2 we could have a moral at the end which would be not to be racist. The first thing we thought about was having a parent/teacher conference and have the teacher make racist assumptions about what each parent wants.

After trying to make this idea work out we realised it would be very difficult since we can't really have have a direct conversation and we found that there wasn't a lot we could actually be racist of in the school area. So we thought a cooking show would be better since we wouldn't have to talk as much.

We started to actually make this idea into an actual performance. So we first needed to think of a storyline. We already knew we wanted it to focus on racism and different cultures so we thought it'd be a good idea to have a cooking show where we have a special edition of chefs all around the world and the host would then be the racist person.

So far, at the end of this lesson we had a little piece of our performance which we presented although it wasn't much. We had Pravin as the host and as he presented the contestant he made assumptions about the food they would make and maybe joke around, then we had me (the Spanish contestant), Omkar (the Indian contestant), Gaurav (the Dutch contestant), George (the English contestant) and Ari (the narrator). This was the set up for our first scene but we will change it around so that everyone has time in the mask.

Feedback we got after performing:
- the set up of the contestants while cooking wasn't very natural since we were all lined up in a straight line
- it would be a good idea to use voice overs instead of having the narrator say what EVERY character says ALL the time because it is distracting and it takes away from the performance
- make it more interesting

My artistic intention is to create a successful performance using all the techniques I learned within this unit, this includes, creating an illusion with the mask, miming, showing status, archetypal characters and major and minor

1. Create an illusion
To do this successfully I have to keep in mind the following rules:
1. Never take off or put on the
mask on stage.
2. Never put your hands on the
mask.
3. Never speak under the mask.
4. Never eat or drink while
wearing the mask.
If any of these rules are broken the illusion will break as well.

2. Mime
The key to miming is to make big gestures and exaggerated movements as well as knowing what you're miming because if you don't know what you are miming then the audience won't know.

3. Status
Status is also very important to this unit. It shows the "level" of the character. For example a rich person has a high status and therefore would walk very confident and looking down on people, meanwhile a poor person has a low status and would be feeling down and looking unsure and weak.

4. Archetypal characters
Archetypal characters are stereotypical characters that have been traditionally used in drama. Using this in my performance will make it better since it lets you come up with different types of character that make the story interesting.

5. Major and minor
Major and minor is just a way to give the audience something to focus on. For example if there is a big group of people on stage and you want the audience to focus on one character or one specific section of the stage you can do that by having all the other actors simply look or turn their bodies to the part that the focus is on.

Overall the message that I want to get across to the audience with my performance is not to be racist and work together it's not always a competition. I plan on achieving this by trying to incorporate the techniques I listed above to my final performance.

Today we mainly focused on the feedback we got yesterday such as making our storyline more interesting, because if we were to just mime cooking the entire time it would get boring and repetitive so to make it more interesting we decided to add the archetypal characters because as I said in my artistic intention it's easier for us to add details if we have the archetypal characters because we know the actions that this type of character would do.

For example we had Pravin as the devil and he would sabotage everyone's food except for the American contestant (Ari would switch from narrator to a new contestant in this second scene) because he wants America to win since he's American as well, we have Gaurav as the fool because he was very clumsy and he spills hot syrup on George and he accidentally stabs him, George is then the victim or the innocent, then we have me as the mother because I try to help George when he gets stabbed, Ari as the hero because she helps everyone after they're food got ruined by Pravin and Omkar as the trickster since he's the one that "accidentally" bumps into George and makes Gaurav stab him.

The first thing we did today was continue to work on the feedback given to us the 4th. We organised the space better so instead of being lined up in a straight line we decided to make a triangle.

We also started discussing whether or not we wanted to have voice overs or not. Some people said it would be annoying having so many recordings and having to press play and do everything on time but some people said it would actually be easier. We weren't sure at all so we decided to try. We first sat down and wrote down the script. We managed to have a little piece of script written by the end of the lesson but we realised that there is no way we could play all those recordings since 1 there was no-one off stage at the moment, in every scene we were all either in our masks or we were the narrator and 2 there would have to be at least 4 different recordings and we thought it would get really complicated and messy so we decided not to go for the voice overs after all.

Today we started off the lesson by rehearsing what we had so far and try to find details that we can improve or develop further and followed the feedback that was given to us from yesterday.

It wasn't very long and it didn't have a proper end to it as someone said yesterday on the performances, so we tried to change that. We decided to give it a resolution. We thought having Ari come up with the solution to just get all the contestants to work together and make one final meal would tie everything together and after that we would just have the judges taste the food and say it's horrible but it was nice to see us work together and that would be the end.

We practiced this a couple of times to make sure we really had it prepared.

In this lesson we had only 15mins to practice and then we would watch another group and give them feedback and the other group would watch our performance and give us feedback.

Our group was the first to watch so we sat down and waited for Tara and her group to set up and get ready to perform. After watching their performance we thought it was really good, it was smooth it was relatableyou could see the message they were trying to get across. We gave them feedback and then it was our turn to perform.

Feedback we got:
- It was good I don't really have anything major I want to change but I feel like the narration is a bit too much

Someone suggested that we have little signs for the judges to hold up when tasting the food instead of having the narrator talk through all of it.

Today we reflected a l little bit on whether we were happy with the performance we had prepared so far. First we went over it a couple of times and rehearsed it. We realised it still wasn't going as smoothly as it should because we had to stop in the middle of performing to clear things up between each other. So to fix this we sat down and went over the storyline together to make sure there was no confusion.

After that we rehearsed it a couple times and it went way more smoothly because as I said in my artistic intention the key to miming is to know what you are doing otherwise the audience won't know what you are doing either.

However, you have described a lot of the lesson but instead of that you should give an insight into what decisions were made and how the connect to your goal. You must show an exploration of techniques and at the minute that is a little lacking.
