1.The Netherlands
Works on sustainable infrastructure and employment projects and develops technologies such as the Great Bubble Barrier, which prevents plastic from Amsterdam's canal waters from reaching the North Sea.
2.Ghana(Gana)
Adopted evidence-based policies to manage the problem of plastic waste.
It was the first African country to join the Global Plastic Action Partnership (in 2019).
Created the Waste Recovery Platform, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, to promote recycling and sustainable innovation in plastics management.
3. China
Is taking important sustainable measures to protect the environment. It has become the largest producer of renewable energy, especially in hydro and wind power, and is developing energy storage technologies. The country is also building waste-to-energy plants and aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2060.
4.New Zealand
Protects over 30% of its land and fines littering up to NZ$30,000. It also invested NZ$124 million in recycling to reduce landfill, promote a circular economy, and create jobs.
5.Japan
Leads in electric vehicle technology and has expanded public fast chargers from 213 to nearly 8,000 (2010–2019). Its government updates a circular economy plan every five years, focusing on disaster waste management and regional circularity.
6.Costa Rica
Generates 99% of its energy from renewables and aims for net-zero emissions by 2050. It has also introduced laws to improve plastic waste management and increase recycling education and resources.
7.‍Sweden
converts 52% of its waste into energy, recycles 47%, and sends only 1% to landfill. The government aims for a zero-waste society and promotes circular economy policies to fully repurpose products.
