         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Yalta Conference was held from February 4 to 11, 1945. The leaders of the United States, Britain, and the Soviet Union met at the Black Sea. There, they agreed  to divide Germany into zones of occupation controlled by the Allied military forces. Stalin also agreed to join the war against Japan. He also promised that Eastern Europeans would have free elections.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>NATO would stand for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It would be a military alliance between European and North American democracies created after World War II. It would also serve as a counter-balance to the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact. An attack on any NATO member there would be armed force by all members nations.<br>The Truman Doctrine would aid  the countries that rejected Communism. They would then send <br>$400 million to Turkey and Greece to help them.<br>The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13 day confrontation with the United States, and the Soviet Union in 1962 over missile sites placed in Cuba.<br>Containment was a policy directed at blocking Soviet influence and stopping the expansion of communism. Containment policies included forming alliances and helping weak countries resist Soviet advances.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Iron Curtain is a boundary separating Communist nations from Eastern Europe. This would last from 1945 until 1991.<br>During the Yalta Conference Stalin promised to have free elections. Stalin would then break his promise of allowing free elections, saying that communism and capitalism could not exist in the same world.<br>The Warsaw Pact was created in 1955 when the Soviet Union saw NATO as a threat. The Warsaw Pact would include the alliances of the Soviet Union, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Albania. </div>]]></description>

It would show who had dominance in other areas such as technology, so they could avoid violence. <br>The United States would be the winners of the Space Race when they would land on the moon.<br>Significant events that played a role during the Space Race. <br>1957-The launch of the first satellite by the Soviet Union.<br>1958-The United States would then launch their first satellite.<br>1961-Both, United States and Soviet Union would send their first human into space.<br>1969-Apollo 11 would land the first men on the moon. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Vietnam War would start from the early 1900s with a man called Ho Chi Minh who asked for help from the Communists. A successful revolution would begin to overthrow the ones in control which would be the French. After the revolution the south and north were on different terms with Communism so they were split individually. The United States would then intervene with the containment policy to try and stop the spread of communism. In 1964, the Vietnamese would then attack two US boats, and in response the United States would began the Vietnam War in which 500,000 troops were sent into battle. Back at home in the US there was protests to bring back home the troops, and stop the Vietnam war. Due to the problems at home the United States withdrew from the war.<br>The Korean War would take place during 1949-1950. The United States and Soviet Union started to take out troops from Korea, the Soviet Union thought that the United States wouldn't protect South Korea so they supplied North Korea with tanks, airplanes, and money to fight South Korea. On June 25, 1950, North Korea swept across the 38th parallel. South Korea then asked the United Nations to step in and help. On July 1953, the United States and North Korea signed a cease-fire agreement.</div>]]></description>

The United States and Soviet Union would agree to Detente.<br>Ping-Pong Diplomacy refers to the exchange of table tennis (ping-pong) players between the United States and People's Republic of China (PRC) in the early 1970s. The event marked a thaw in Sino-American relations that paved the way to a visit to Beijing by President Richard Nixon.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Cuban Missile Crisis began on July 1962. It was a time of fear due to nuclear war. The United States flew a spy drone over Cuba when they discovered a missile site. The United States saw it as a potential threat and decided to set up a naval blockade to stop any other imports of missiles entering Cuba. The United States ordered the Soviets to remove the missiles. The final decision made was that the Soviet Union would remove the missiles if the United States agreed to not invade Cuba.<br>U.S.–Soviet relations continued to worsen in 1946 and 1947. A worried United States tried to stop the growing Soviet threat to Eastern Europe. President Truman adopted a foreign policy called containment. It was a policy directed at blocking Soviet influence and stopping the expansion of communism. Containment policies included forming alliances and helping weak countries resist Soviet advances.</div>]]></description>
