I realized that working with young children makes me happy and satisfied. I have been working in a school environment for more than a decade, but the feeling is so different when I became part of the early learning childhood program. Just to share with you, I am currently working with pre-school (autism program), and I am having an enjoyable day everyday regardless of the behavior/s that I dealt with our students. Also, some of my friends would say that you should surround yourself with young people to feel young. Guess what, it does not only make you feel young but really makes you feel young. I know, it sounds and looks the same, but it is not. I say this because I am more active at work than when I am at home. I do not think I have ever enjoyed imaginary play or pretend play until now. I used to think that children ages 3-5 would not make me think hard to answer, but I was wrong. I must think twice before replying during small talk or conversations while playing. Making sure that I always have an answer to anything they ask or have something to say. And now, I have fallen in love with the thought of helping our little Einsteins to be more independent and learn to interact with different people and children. order to reply in the conversation.

Explain what features of teaching young children you find most interesting and why.

I think it is the learning curve of young children that I find most interesting. They are like a sponge that absorbs whatever we put. I feel that this will allow me to be more creative and not to stick with the same tone or style of teaching. We should remember that with technology, it is very difficult to make a young child sit and listen to you unless they see something different or find your delivery very interesting. One more thing that makes me interested in young children is their innocence. I find myself so caught up with all the things that are happening around me and being with them brings me back to my childhood and the feeling is always great. Fun in learning new things and exploring what the world has to offer.

Importance of diversity and how you will support it in your work.

Diversity plays a very important role. In a classroom, the more diverse it is, the more learning the children will achieve. We see a lot of things happening around us and the inputs on how a boy, girl, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic, Christian, or Catholic reacts or responds will be give us more understanding on how they perceive things that helps in the child’s development. As an educator, it will be part of our guide on how to communicate with the family. Also, when we let all children engage or participate in the classroom, it will turn our classroom to be inclusive regardless of our own biases.

To be prepared for working with children, I will have to complete my education/ degree requirements, attend trainings that will provide more inputs from people who have been working with children or from researchers, and to be very observant when the actual learning takes place. The concepts that we get from our classroom help us with our actual experience. Since learning is a continuous process, I will need to do further studies and be part of a group or organization of teachers that help and nurture each other with their experiences.

Explain which curriculum model(s) you feel most closely aligns to your philosophy and why?

The curriculum model I would want to use is High Scope. To easily achieve the learning targets, we should use a play-centered strategy, like the educational influences Margaret and Rachel McMillan shared. Each child will have the opportunity to participate in any activity and we will use the Plan-Do-Review cycle. We all know how much kids enjoy exploring and playing, and how important it is for them. Hence, it would be beneficial if we provided kids with materials needed, letting them choose and know which one to play with, either by themselves or with others. They'll be able to perceive things in a unique way. I believe there are no boundaries to learning in this situation. With this strategy, kids can enjoy themselves and do what they enjoy while we receive the learning results, we want them to get and make an enjoyable environment they will always want to return to.

I want to work with young children to make sure they can tell the difference between the sounds of each alphabet letter before they start kindergarten so they can learn to read. I would also like them to recognize and spell their name. To be able to design activities that will assist the kids become ready for kindergarten without putting them through hardship or stress. Since each child learns differently, the activities that will be done will help them be on the same starting point as the rest of the group.
