He feels like he has to do this because he is the youngest. One event that shows he wants to impress his brothers is when he says how he feels about Darry here. “Darry thought I was just another mouth to feed and somebody to holler at... I don’t care about Darry. But I was still lying and I knew it. I lie to myself all the time. But I never believe me.” - (Page 19).  Another event that shows he’s trying to impress his brothers and the gang was when he stood up for Dally at the movies and impressed Cherry.

One example of when he was extremely brave was when he went inside of the burning church to save the children. Here’s one quote that shows this “They were the only kind of girls that would look at us, I thought. Tough, loud girls who wore too much eye makeup and giggled and swore too much.”(pg 47) Another event that shows Ponyboy’s judgemental side was when Johnny and Pony went to find Dally after they killed Bob. When the door opened Buck Merril answered and Pony told us how he didn’t like him and thought he was bad.

He is a dynamic character because he changes over time. In the beginning of the book he didn't have to go through all the tragedy he did by the end of the book, which made him stronger overall. The big moment when he changed was when Johnny and Dally died. Here’s a quote from that situation,”One week had taken all three of them. And I decided I could tell people” (pg 153)
Ponyboy is a round character because he has a complex personality. For example, when he almost drowned at the fountain, he didn’t seem that tough, but only a few days later he was very brave and tough to help save the kids from the fire.

This means he  would rather be in his world then in the real world. Here’s a quote that shows he is not an extrovert,”But I usually lone it anyway, for no reason except that I like to watch movies undisturbed so I can get into them and live them with the actors” (pg 5). Neuroticism describes a person’s tendency to experience negative emotions, including fear, sadness, anxiety, guilt, and shame. Since he was high in this category, take things more personally. One example of this is when Darry slapped Ponyboy and Ponyboy ran out the door.
