I think the monster was telling Connor that he will do something more and more terryfying the next night. This also might just be an early warning which will impact his life dramaticaly in some sort of way.Such as possibly showing his mother in a life or death position. Or possibly Connor just said that to show some more confidents in him to the monster. I just feel like the monter is trying to teach him a lesson, but I just don't know what it is.That part was also probably a cliff hanger.

I think that the monster will bring out fear in Conor not by being scary or creepy, but by finding out his secrets and using them against him in a way. It says in the summary that the monster wants the truth, so I infer that facing the truth is what will cause Conor to be afraid of the monster. The monster also said that Conor will be scared "Before the end". I think that what the monster meant by "the end" is that that is when the monster will leave Conor alone and stop haunting him constantly. Not that Conor's life will come to an end because of the monster. That means that the monster will only leave after figuring out the truth. And when he does leave, he will leave the truth worrying and troubling Conor, and it may affect his life a lot in many ways.

✩ ANSWER TO QUESTION 1 ✩:
By “Before the end”, I believe that the Monster meant the final move of his wrath. I predict that the Monster’s final move will be something so gruesome and morbid that it will compel Conor to reveal his darkest secret (since that is the Monster’s motive, as said in the synopsis in the book), and only then will the Monster leave, which will probably change Conor’s life forever. "The end" could also mean the end of the joy in Conor's life, because revealing a secret so dark that he never told anyone could lead into a morbid and unknown phase in his life. I also think that Conor was saying the truth about not being scared of the Monster, because instead, I believe that his fear is being face-to-face with his secret. We often have a hard time to come face-to-face with our secrets, even more when we aren’t proud of it. No one’s perfect and everyone has a secret that they want to bury, and for me, that’s my past, or rather, how I’ve acted in the past. I know I’ve said many things that I regret because it isn’t who I am today. But I guess it’s these contrite situations from our past that help us learn from our mistakes. Maybe this is why the monster is trying to get the truth from Conor; so that instead of hiding it, Conor would learn to ACCEPT his secret.

At the same time, Conor could've been lying and saying he wasn't scared of him, so that he would leave him alone? Maybe, the monster saying, "You will be", was to leave Conor feeling uneasy, uncomfortable, and make him not look forward to the night.

So far in the book, the readers know that Conner always wakes up 7 minutes past midnight and we know the monster lives in a tree in the cemetery behind his house. I think that when the monster said "you will be, in the end" I think that the monster knows something that Conner has kept a secret because of how secretive and distant he has been being with his mother. The reason why I feel that the monster knows a "secret" is because he lives right behind his house and has the ability to enter Conner's dreams. What is his secret?
I also think when the monster said: "you will be, in the end." I think the monster is going to take over Conner. For example, Conner is paranoid about the monster and losing sleep to see if the monster is real. What if Conner's paranoia is a way for the monster to make Conner fear him? I think Conner's paranoia is a way the monster will make Conner fear him.

Monsters are presumed to be scary or sinister, but this monster was different. This monster came for the truth, so maybe it wants Conner to face that truth and leave it with him, as it may become a consequence that will impact his life. In the book so far it may seem as though a giant yew tree comes to life, (as a “monster”) wanting to know the truth, but I think it is instead a metaphor of the shadow of his mother's forthcoming death from cancer. “Before the end” is referring to the end of her life, instead of Conor's. I believe Coner was trying to tell the monster that he wasn't truly scared of the monster itself, but of the aftermath of the truth (what I think is his mother's death) and how that will take its toll on Conor's life or more specifically his emotional state, trying to adjust to living without his mom.

Also, it states in the book that his mother has been sick for quite a while, yet Conor's father hasn't tried to get in touch before now, which might be why his grandma feels rattled.

In Conor's perspective, his mother is sick, but will eventually be okay. He thinks that people ignoring him is a sign of disrespect rather than a sign of respect, which most people are trying to do. Be respectful. Conor doesn't understand that and he thinks that people think of him as a 'freak', but in reality most of his schoolmates just think that he wants to be left alone and not bothered.

✩ ANSWER TO QUESTION 2 ✩:
The reason why I think Conor would feel worse sitting outside is because that is just another way people are showing him their pity. The thing about pity is that it’s from a distance, it makes you feel helpless, whereas empathy is personal and out of compassion. This is where the saying “Your actions speak louder than your words" come into play; the teacher thinks she is giving Conor space, whereas through Conor's perspective, she’s just making him feel MORE abandoned and weak. Another reason why might he resent others pity is because it’s just another reminder that his mother is terribly ill, and that she might not make it in the end, something Conor is having a hard time coming face-to-face with. We pity each other in our society all the time, without even realizing it! There are currently terrible things going out there in the world today, like the Syrian Civil War. We say "Aww, that's too bad" and shrug it off like we couldn't be bothered to deal with their third world problems. But the truth is that WE ARE PITYING THEM. As hard it is hearing it, it is true. Conor also wants to be treated as any other student, except people keep treating him as the "weird kid with family issues". It's as if people keep seeing the label that society has given him instead of actually trying to get to know him. Maybe if people actually talked to him about his problem instead of "giving him space", it would help him come to terms with his mother's illness.

ANSWER TO QUESTION 1
I think what the monster meant by "you will be scared by the end" is that, the monster is going to do something very bad to Conor that will make him scared if he's not already. I have a feeling that the monster will find something very deep about Conor and somehow use it against him. Maybe something Conor has hidden from his whole family, friends and perhaps even us. I feel like this would happen because in the story it said that the monster wanted the TRUTH. If the "truth" were to be a secret that Conor was hiding it would make sense because Conor would not want anyone to find out but, if someone did and they were threatening to share the secret he would be most likely afraid of them/try to avoid them. OR maybe, the monster will do something to threaten Conor into giving out his own secret. By saying "you will be scared by the end " , i feel like he would possibly threaten Conor and maybe threaten him in a way that Conor willingly releases his own secrets out of nervousness of what the monster would do to him if he didn't release the secrets.

QUESTION TWO: 💕
I think Coner would feel worse being outside alone than to be punished because being punished requires being noticed, and that’s all Coner wants. He feels invisible! No one notices him or their trying to give him space, thinking that’s what he needs, but in turn maybe it’s what is making him feel even more abandoned and isolated. He doesn’t want to be disregarded by people out of feeling pity for him because of his mother's cancer. In the book, we see that Coner constantly tries to deny the fact that his mother may die. He knows his mom, and he knows that she is powerful enough to fight this cancer and go back to the life she had with him before his grandmother or father came into the picture. But, this isolation is making it harder for him to come to terms with the fact that she could be gone. He wants people to treat him the same way they do to the other kids, as oppose to being the outcast more than he already is, as he’s getting bullied constantly at school. He doesn’t wantto Hbe defined by him problems. e feels that no one in his life is able to understand his issues which is probably why in the book we can see him being distant from others, something that is adding to his emotional state. I think why he isn’t getting close to people is because he has been betrayed in the past, making it harder to trust people because they may betray them again. A factor in the book proving my point was when Lily told everyone his mother was sick. Whether it was in good intentions or not (which I think it was with good intentions), it still HURT Conor. He doesn’t want the same thing happen again if he tells someone how he FEELS, let alone his secrets (such as the monster) it may not end in a good result. Conor’s fear outlines a huge issue in pur society with genders. The stereotypical male is presumed to be strong, meaning they can’t show emotion, so showing any sign of emotion is considered a weakness. Already, Conor is thought of as a weak individual, especially to Harry, since they can always push him around. Them seeing him emotionally breakdown about something like this (about his mother’s cancer) could make it worse for him.The problem lies with all this assumption. People think he just needs space, but maybe he just needs to talk to someone, but no one will know that if they don’t talk to him or merely even acknowledge he’s there. In the past, I’ve known someone whose gotten bullied, and most people thought it would be okay to not acknowledge that person because they wouldn’t want to be on the bullies bad side, but that just made it worse, making the victim feel even more of an outcast; even more isolated But when I asked the victim if they wanted to talk, they told me it felt nice to have someone actually notice them, or even care. It goes to show that if someone actually took the time to talk to Coner maybe it could lift a little bit of that weight off his shoulders.

I think that the Monster told the second tale to help Conor realize that not all stories end how you want them to. He could also be telling the story to make him understand that not letting Conor's grandmother into his life isn't helping him in his situation. Maybe one day, like the parson needed the apothecary, Conor will need his grandmother, but won't deserve it. I think that the Monster "controlled" Conor and made him destroy his grandmother's living room because he wanted Conor to realize that he wasn't the only one who had a lot on his plate. When his grandmother walked in, she didn't scream. She just stared at the mess silently. For someone that is very overprotective of her belongings, you would expect her to punish Conor and yell at him, but she didn't. This goes to show you that Conor isn't the only one going through a lot and that his grandmother has so much to worry about, that she barely cared about all that money she spent to fill a whole room. She's scared for her daughter, and I think that the Monster wanted Conor to know that and accept his grandmother, despite her not understanding/underestimating Conor. All this really reminds me of the second tale that the Monster told Conor.

QUESTION THREE: 💕
The second take had great meaning behind it. I think the monsters ability to “control” Coner is what made him destroy his grandmother’s living room. Coner may have a lot going on in his life at such a young age, and having his grandmother suddenly come into the picture was hard for him. But he wasn’t the only one; his grandmother has a lot to deal with too, she has a daughter she cares about going through something horrible (cancer) and she’s scared for her. I can only imagine what Coners grandma is going through because my grandma went through the same thing when her son (my uncle) got cancer. It made it hard on the whole family, but the great thing was we all had each other to lift one another’s up, and eventually we got through it TOGETHER! Coner doesn’t have a family’s like that, making it even harder for him. The monster wanted Coner to understand this. Even though his mother is trying to fight cancer, and Coner is trying to fight it with her by doing as much as he can, his grandmother is just as much in the battle. The tale itself was a message to Coner telling him that eventually everyone needs someone; someone in their life that can help them in any situation and pushing people away won’t help that. Maybe there will be a day when Coner does need him grandmother, but it could be too late. Putting a “wall” between him and his grandmother isn’t helping either of them cope with this issue. They both need to learn to accept eachother so they can overcome this battle of Coners moms cancer, which is what this tale outlines.

✩ ANSWER TO QUESTION 3 ✩:
The second tale had a much significance, all depending on the angle the reader chooses to look at it from. From the Monster’s perspective, his actions are always for a GREATER cause as he considers the situation from EVERY perspective. For example, as we have seen in the first and second tale, he did the unexpected, or rather he listened to the MISSING voice. In the first tale, he considered the Queen’s voice and decided not to punish her. In the second tale, he punished the parson, due to his selfishness. The reason WHY he told Conor this specific tale is because he wants Conor to ALSO look at his situation from EVERYONE’S point of view, especially his grandmothers. He should also consider his mother’s current state, and how she is feeling extravagantly guilty because she is unable to be there for him right now. Through his grandmother’s perspective, who is in great turmoil because her daughter’s health is getting worse by each passing day, she has to deal with her grandson who will be devastated if he found out how grave his mother’s health REALLY is. The Monster also wants him to realise that in this time, it would be best if he and his grandmother support each other, because ALL HUMAN BEINGS, no matter how old or young, yearn for a feeling of home in such dark times. I personally understand Coner’s grandmother’s situation, because my family has similarly gone through a somber time, and that was when my grandmother fell terribly ill. She was the GLUE of our family, just as Conor’s mother is the glue that bonds Conor, his father, and his grandmother. However, I cannot even imagine how Conor is feeling, because I had my parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins supporting me through all of it, whereas Conor feels that there is no one that cares for him.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Growing up as a child, he only saw his dad once in a while, but other than that, he never really was surrounded by many others. One of the most closest to him was his mom and now, he's afraid of the possible things that could happen to him or his mom. Maybe, he doesn't want to be separated from her because she is his everything, in the category of friends and family. One thing we're all sure of is that his loneliness was furthered when he realized no one would punish him for anything. If we know that, then maybe, that's one of his fears. Knowing that no one really cares about him? Maybbbeee, losing the people close to him and being forgotten.

I haven't gotten to answer any questions yet so I'm going to answer them all here.
Question 1:When the monster said "you will be, before the end" it meant that he is going to do something or make something happen like maybe telling him the truth about his moms chance of surviving because he is scared of that.
Question 2:I think it made him feel worse because it shows him how sick his mom really is in a way. Like people feel bad that his mom is so sick that he won't get in trouble but he didn't think there was a reason for people to feel bad for him.
Question 3:I thought the second tale was interesting because the whole story I've thought that the monster wasn't real and was just kind of a "coping mechanism" for Conor to deal with all of the negative things in his life and it made me think that even more because he kind of "helped" Conor destroy the living room just by talking and you've never actually seen the monster break anything we just kind of assume that he did it. I'm really interested to see how the story continues and find out more about Conor and the monster and see if I change my opinion. I also hope to see more about Conor and his grandmother and see if he gets to know her more and if they grow closer.
Question 4: I think Conor is most afraid of losing his mom. I think this because it seems like he really doesn't want to accept that it is possible and if his mom died it would be like he had lost both parents because he doesn't see his dad very often. He would probably feel really lonely without his mom because he doesn't have a good relationship with his grandma or the people at school and no one likes to feel alone and that's why I think his biggest fear is losing his mom.

QUESTION 4: 💕
I think Coner is most afraid of the truth, being his mother’s forthcoming death. Coner constantly denies the fact that his mother could be gone. In the past, he admitted he’s not afraid of the yew tree, and he’s grown to come to terms with his nightmares, but hasn’t been able to face the truth or think about the aftermath, if the truth were to actually happen. Losing his mom would mean he lost both his parents, since his dad hasn’t been around the majority of his life. In the book, a recent example proving this is Coners fear was when Harry said something that showcases the meaning behind his fear; being alone. It was when Harry denied his existence, calling him invisible. He is also isolated from his grandma, and the people at school, so he doesn’t really have any close family/friends that could help him if his mother did die. His mother was the glue that held their family together, so without her, their family would have little hope. This reminds me of when my mom’s friend died and it was hard for their family to cope since she was the glue that held them together. But luckily her loss is what brought the family closer together. But I feel this wouldn’t be the case for Conor’s family, since none of them really have a good relationship with one another, and the fact that Conor’s dad had been gone for most of the time, I don’t think losing Conor’s mom would change that (knowing he has a family of his own back in the US). Overall, Coner’s mother passing means that he would be alone, a feeling no one enjoys because we all need someone that we can trust, someone that makes us feel safe. But without his mother, Coner doesn’t have anyone like that in his life, which would be the reason behind him fearing the truth.

Question 5: I think Conor's story is about what the monster means to him. The monster appeared at a really tough part of Conor's life. He showed up when his mom got really sick, when he got bullied at school, when his grandma came to visit, etc. It doesn't seem like Conor talks to anyone about what's going on in his life because the only person that he really trusts is sick and he doesn't want to bother her. He is dealing with a lot and keeping it all in can't be good for him so maybe that's what the monster is. Maybe the monster is kind of just a metaphor for all of his emotions. Conor destroyed his grandma's living room so that shows that the window that "the monster" broke could have really just been him as well. Maybe Conor's story is about how he is dealing with everything going on and maybe the way he is dealing with it is by creating the monster.

When showing a part of his nightmare in the story, it said that Conor was holding someone's hand, but then let go and they started to fall. I think that the person who was falling is his mother. It may mean that his mother was there with him, but then when she lets go, it means that she dies. I think the Monster knows that she will pass away, and wants Conor to know that too, so he won't be struck with shock when she dies. That's the truth and Conor needs to accept that.

1) I think what the monster meant by "You will be, by the end" was that as the monster told each story Connor would learn more about him and would grow more scared as he learned how powerful the monster is. I think instead though he wont be afraid but he will learn to trust the monster and befriend him. I think this because as the book goes on it seems more and more like Connor treats him as a friend since Connor doesn't really have any friends. He seems pretty comfortable around the monster and he doesn't seem scared.
2) I think it made him feel worse because he knew he wouldn't get punished because people pity him. I don't think he wants to be pitied because every time someone would try to pity him or comfort him he would get mad or uncomfortable. I think he just wants to be treated as a normal kid and not be defined by the things he's going through.

ANSWER TO QUESTION 4:
Most would say he’s afraid of the monster, and there is no doubt about that. However, I believe he is afraid of something much more; the fact his mother might not make it, and that that he will be ALONE. In the beginning of the book, the author mentioned how Conor wasn’t afraid of the “Yew-Tree Monster”, because he had a much more terrifying nightmare with a much more terrifying scenario, and I think that is nothing other than his mother’s death. Another recent factor that proves my point is when Harry did the worst thing he could to Connor, and that was denying his existence and making him feel INVISIBLE and ALONE. The reason why I believe he has such a hard time being alone is because his father, someone so close to home, left him as a child and their relationship crumbled. He also never had any good friends other than Lily, so to him, he feels that has no one else other than his mother.

✩ ANSWER TO QUESTION 4 (RE-DO) ✩:
*Pls read this one and not my old one!*

Most would say he’s afraid of the monster, and there is no doubt about that. However, I believe he is afraid of something much more, something much darker; the fact his mother might not make it, and that he will be left ALONE. In the beginning of the book, the author mentioned how Conor wasn’t afraid of the “Yew-Tree Monster” because he had a much more terrifying nightmare with a much more terrifying scenario, and I think that is nothing other than his mother’s death. We also recently read Conor's flashback of his nightmare, proving that losing his mother is his greatest fear. Another recent factor that proves my point is when Harry did the worst thing he could to Connor, and that was denying his existence and making him feel INVISIBLE and ALONE. A possible reason why I believe he has such a hard time being alone is because his father, someone so close to home, left him as a child and their relationship crumbled. He also never had any good friends other than Lily, so to him, he feels that has no one else other than his mother. As we have read the book, I have grown to realize that Conor doesn't necessarily share his thoughts or feeling with people (let alone secrets!), and I think that is because he has a hard time trusting people. I think it’s because he feels like he's been betrayed multiple of times, like when his father left him as a child, or when Lily told everyone his mother was sick. Conor not telling anyone about his fear also plays a role in the bigger picture, and that is STEREOTYPES. In our society today, males are seen as the 'stronger gender', so they often feel that they cannot show their emotions, or else they will make them seem 'weaker". This may be why Conor's dad also seems mellow about Conor's mom's sickness.

✩ ANSWER TO QUESTION 5 ✩:
I think that Conor’s story is his confession, HIS TRUTH, which is that he LOATHES being alone. As we read in the synopsis of the book, it stated that the Monster wanted the TRUTH, and I believe that was the Monster’s motive the whole time. An evident example of this would be when Harry said he would do the worst thing he could to Conor, and that was making him feel like he didn’t exist, making him feel INVISIBLE. We all read how Conor lashed out when Harry made him feel invisible, proving that feeling alone DOES make him feel anxious. Every tale that the Monster told was to teach Conor valuable lessons, and I think getting Conor to tell him his own ‘tale’ would teach Conor to accept himself, including all his strengths and flaws. It is important that we also take away from the main idea of this book and express our feelings, because “keeping it in” only makes the situation worse. In A Monster Calls, Conor has alway kept his feelings to himself, which eventually caused him to vent his anger towards Harry. However, expressing our feelings may be tougher in the society that we live in today. Males are often pressured by the stereotype that expressing your feelings make you less manly, and they end up “keeping it in”, just like Conor did in the book. I can understand Conor’s situation, because I similarly tried to keep all my emotions on the inside when I was losing someone close to me. Being the oldest of my siblings, I felt pressured to bottle up my emotions so that the people around me wouldn’t break down either. However, holding it in caused me to start acting bitter to the people around me, just like when Conor bottle up his feelings, it caused him to oust his anger towards Harry. But as I soon realised that feeling sad was OKAY because I realised I had people around me to support me through it, and I think that if Conor realised that he also had people around him (like his grandma, Lily etc.) that he could talk to, he would also start to think that his feelings also mattered.

Question 5:
I think Connor’s story is his confession of the truth. From the beginning of the book ,we all knew that the monsters main focus was to get Connor’s truth, which is admitting his biggest fear is losing his mother, since she was the last person he has in his life. Losing her would mean losing everything and being alone more than he already was. Conor showed this during his incident with Harry in the lunchroom. Harry told him exactly what he didn’t want to hear. He was INVISIBLE. He was one of many other people who denied Conor’s existence. It’s not that he was physically invisible, it was the fact that people got used to not seeing him. He lashed out at Harry because one way or another he was going to MAKE Harry notice him, as well as face the consequences of telling him he’s invisible. This proves that being alone or even feeling alone makes him anxious or scared. But Conor needs to learn that feeling this way is okay, which i think is something he doesn’t understand. It’s hard to lose someone you love, no matter what age you are or what gender you are. I feel Conor might be afraid to show emotion because he thinks if he shows emotion people will make fun of him, more than they already do. The media shows us an image of what it thinks we should look like, behave, or do. The stereotypical male is presumed to not show any emotion, because they need to be “strong”, because to the unexpecting media, if you show emotion, you aren’t considered strong which isn't true. But even if it isn’t true, people still believe it because it is all over media, the media that always consumes our minds. Even if Connor wants to show emotion he feels he can’t because it’s not what the media portrays

Question 2:
I think it made Conor feel worse because it shows him how sick his mother is. People felt bad when they heard Conor's mom is sick. Conor didn't want to get treated differently. Everyone felt sorry for him, which probably made them think that he wouldn't get in trouble.
Question 3:
The second tale was interesting. I remember when the monster had control, so he destroyed his grandma's living room. Since a lot of things are happening around Conor, I think the monster is trying to help him out. At first, I thought the monster is going to share its negative side with Conor, but I think everything the monster does is to help Conor.
Question 4:
In the beginning of the book, I thought Conor was afraid of the monster. But now I think the monster is trying to help him because the monster is like a friend to him, and it will always support him. I think Conor was most afraid of his mom dying because he saw how much his mom was struggling with sickness everyday. His mom is really important to him. My second thought was maybe he was kind of scared of his grandma because, as we were reading through the book, it seemed like Conor's grandma was against him. She even forced Conor to go to school while his mom was at the hospital. She would make him feel bad about himself. Since his mom and dad don't have a good relationship with each other, Conor won't see his dad this often. Possibility, Conor's mom could also die. So, which mean that he could be stuck with his grandma.

Question 5:

I think Conor's story is about his truth. In the beginning of the book, I thought the monster was trying to find his truth. I thought Conor's biggest fear was losing his mother. He had a nightmare of letting go of someone's hand, and they fell. I suppose it's his mom who he let go of because Conor probably no longer wanted to see his mom living through the pain anymore, and he just wants to let her go. Conor and the monster knew she'd die. His story was also about how he was the target for the bullies at school, and how he disliked his grandma. His dad also no longer lives with him. Conor struggles a lot with everything that's going around him. That is why he doesn't like sharing his personal life with anyone.

QUESTION SIX : WHAT IS CONOR'S FINAL TRUTH?

Answer : I think that his final truth is that he wanted everything that was hurting him and the ones he love to be over with. Even having a loved one pass away was better than him having to watch them suffer in front on his eyes. I think that this truth makes him feel guilty about everything, which causes him to think that the bad things happening in his life were all his fault or all came back to him. But, the issues aren't his fault. He just doesn't or, as of now, didn't want to accept the fact that something bad was going to happen, furthering his sadness and guilt.

In my opinion, I think that Conor knew the truth all along and knew that things were going to happen, but he didn't want to admit it or accept it, because he didn't want his feelings and/or thoughts to come true and be a real nightmare.

Question 6: I think Conor's final truth was that it was okay that his mom was going to die because it was better for her to die than suffer. The Yew tree was supposed to help/cure the mom but it ended up actually helping Conor because at the beginning of the book Conor wouldn't accept that his mom dying was a possibility, but at the end he just didn't want his mom to be in pain. The monster helped Conor make a connection with his grandma and I feel like that will be good for Conor because now, if his mom really did die, they can help each other "get through it." I know it's not part of the question but through the entire book I have thought that the monster was some sort of coping mechanism for Conor because he had a lot of things happening in his life (being bullied at school, his mom was sick, etc.) and he had no one to talk to because the only person that he REALLY trusted was his mom. I thought that maybe the monster was his way of dealing with everything and the end of the book added to that "theory."

Conor still loves his mom but, he'd probably be okay if his mom was going to die because it was better for his mom to die than suffer. The monster had Conor's back. The monster, which is a Yew tree, was supposed to heal Conor's mom's sickness. But it didn't. I think the only reason the monster didn't cure her cancer is probably because, Conor's truth was he didn't want to see his mother live in a horrible condition of illness. That is probably why the monster didn't cure his mom's cancer. It's not like he wants his mother to die. He just doesn't want to see her suffering anymore.

✩ ANSWER TO QUESTION 6 ✩:

I think that Conor’s final truth was that deep inside of him, he knew it was time to let go of his mother. No one wants to see their loved ones in pain, and for Conor, it was easier for him to see his mom die rather than keep suffering. I know because he admitted to his truth when the monster took Conor to his nightmare (the nightmare in which he lets go of his mother's hand). I don’t think this makes Conor selfish or hostile, because as the monster said, it is the most human thing he could do. From his mother’s perspective, maybe she was also holding on for Conor to accept her passing, and when he did, she surrendered herself to her awaited death. This was especially hard for me to hear because this situation reminds me of my grandpa’s gradual death. It has just been 1 week since my brother was born when he passed away, and I remember my family talking about how maybe my grandpa wanted to see his grandson and our family happy before he would leave us. There is no scientific proof that this was what Conor’s mom or my grandpa was thinking, because instead, it is something that we just can feel. As we read the book, we felt Conor’s mom awaiting Conor’s acceptance of her illness, and when my grandma was lying on the hospital bed, we felt him waiting to see our smiling faces. Maybe we come up with these resolutions to help us cope with our loses, or maybe they are TRUE, but what matters is that we learn to accept the loss.

Answer to Question 6:

I think that Conor's final truth was that despite his love for his mother, he wanted to let go of her for the better. Conor always knew that his mother would one day pass away, but never wanted to believe it. In his nightmare we saw that Conor did always think that he would lose his mother to cancer, but he wanted to think that his loss was just a nightmare and nothing more. Conor would want his mother to either live and be healthy or pass away, but he would never want to see her be weak, suffering for the rest of her life. He knew that it would hurt much too hard to go through all that pain and suffering. He would much rather sacrifice his mother's life to protect himself and his mother, than to feel hurt and isolated. Like I mentioned earlier, Conor truly does love his mother, but if he wanted her to finally be free, he would have to learn to let her go... forever.

answer to question 2
I think this means that Conor just wants to be punished. Throughout the whole book he wasn’t disciplined and everyone took pity on him and he didn’t want that. He wanted to be responsible for his actions instead of always being pitied. For example, he got really upset when the principal didn’t do anything to him when he physically hurt Harry. Instead she took pity on him and that’s why he got really upset. That’s probably why it made him feel worse when he stayed out there and nobody punished him. I also think it might mean that he thinks that nobody cares about him. He probably feels neglected by everyone around him. He doesn’t really have any emotional support anymore now that his moms in the hospital, and by being out there and no one calling him back in or punishing him, it might mean that he thinks nobody cares. Nobody cares enough to look for him and punish him. Maybe he thinks they are all busy to look after him.

question three:
I think the third tale was very deep and interesting. I think it was very unexpected because everyone usually thinks there is a happy ending and there was a twist and the story came out not so happy. Usually we see stories and Disney movies and stuff like that have a very happy ending but this story is kind of reality since reality is not so happy all the time. Reality doesn't always have a happy ending and you kind of have to deal with that. It kinda teaches you a lesson but in a very dark way. This reminds me of the boy who cried wolf. In the boy who cried wolf, the boy would cry for the people to come save and help him. Every time it was a false alarm and when he needed the people they didn't come and save him from the wolf. It kinda is similar to this story. The parson bad mouthed the chemist so the chemist can't have a good rep anymore. Then when the parson really needed the chemist he wouldn't help or he "thought about it". But this story took it a step further and the monster burned down the parsons house. I also think the monster told Conor this story because I think the monster wanted Conor to get that sensation of getting in trouble by making him destroy his grandma's furniture. The monster low key knew what Conor wanted and he wanted that to be fulfilled by telling him a story and persuading him to destroys what Conor thought was the parsons house but instead it was his grandmas. I also think he told Conor this because I think he wanted Conor to get his anger out. Conor has been under a lot of stress and sadness and what better way to combat that is to get all your anger/sadness out by destroying something?

A to Q4
I think what Conor is most afraid of is the truth aka his mother dying. In the book it seems like Conor is basically on his own in a way. He doesn't really have friends at school or anyone to bond with at home other than his mother. All of his adult relationships aren't as stable as him and his mother's. His mom was there when he was born and has always been there. Besides her he really has no other emotional support.Since his mother is sick he really doesn't have anyone. The only person he can really trust is his mom. When she's getting sicker he tries to deny the fact that she's gonna go soon and he tries and gets semi hopeful by wanting to go visit her and telling his dad and grandma that she will live. Also that recurring nightmare is also mainly about letting his mother go and her passing away. And that nightmare has bothered him for so long and made him scared in the middle of the night. The nightmare was eating him alive and that nightmare was what he was afraid of and when that nightmare comes to real life thoughts, that's what makes him afraid the most. Losing his mother.

A to Q5
I think Conor’s story is this book. That sounds kind of “dumb”. Of course the story is “Conor’s story”. I mean that the whole book is his story. Him going through the pain, him meeting this monster that turns his life upside down. All this is his story to tell. A story is usually exciting or has value/lesson. This whole book was a story in Connor's life. Infact Connor's story is his life. This whole book was like a major event in his story. It helped him and it taught him a lesson and it brought value. He learned a lot about himself through his own story aka the book. The events that happened in his story changed his ending forever. The monster appearing changed his life forever. Without such a significant event in his story, his story would be like everyone else's.

A to Q6
Conor’s final truth is that he wants his mother to pass away. He has seen her suffer for so long and i believe once you start taking a bunch of pain, there's an exploding point. And his exploding point is “the truth”. He truly wanted his mother to live but at the same time he wanted her to pass so they both don't have to suffer anymore. He didn't want to continue to see his mother go through all that pain and he just couldn't take it anymore. And when Conor was in the nightmare he tried to desperately deny the truth because let's face it, the truth in any tough situation is hard. Especially in a situation like death. Nobody wants to face their mom dieing but conor lowkey wanted that just so both of their suffering could end but he never wanted to admit it because it seemed like such a horrible thing to face. “I want my mo to die”, nobody would wanna face that. But the monster in the nightmare was eating him alive so much that he couldn't and just faced the truth. In conclusion the truth was that “ he didn't want his mom to die but he also did because he didn't wanna see her suffer anymore.”
