Discussion of the veil and gender roles relating to clothing: Marji's family are strongly against the veil that has become obligatory for women, her mother is insulted on the street for not wearing it before (page 73-74)<br>3. Marji's mother agrees with Marji taking part in demonstrations, the reason for this being that "she should start leaarning to defend her rights as a woman right now" (page 76)<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Evidence:<br>The young boys who are from poor families are given a key, and are told that if they take this key and are "lucky enough" to die in the war they'll go to paradise, where there is "plenty of food, women, and houses made out of gold and diamonds". It is clear that satrapi's mother does not believe that this is true, which is further emphasised by the fact that the key was actually made out of plastic and simply painted gold, which could symbolise that it's a fake promise, like how the key is not real gold.<br><br></div>]]></description>

In page 87, we see other non-refugees, including Marji's mom, salvaging food as well. The blame is put on refugees. </div><div><br>p. 93 panel 1-2</div><blockquote>"<strong>They</strong> take everything".</blockquote><div><br>Further underlines the shift of blame from themselves to the refugees, even though they are as guilty.<br><br></div><blockquote>"The <strong>women are prostituting</strong> themselves. No dignity!"</blockquote><div><br>The value of female refugees is further degenerated by labeling them as prostitutes who do not have dignity.<br><br></div><blockquote>"It won't just be food. With all <strong>those 🤬 </strong>out there, we're going to have to watch our husbands".</blockquote><div><br>The Iranian woman further emphasizes the value of female refugees by labeling them as 🤬 who not only will salvage their food, but sleep with their husbands as well.</div>]]></description>
