He doesn't know who he can trust and if they are helping him survive and solve the family secret for their own gain or to help him. It seems he can trust his best friend Boges. He helps Cal while on the run by bringing him food, clothing and money. He is the one that Cal can confide in about everything. Boges even checks in on Cal's family and gives him updates. Cal didn't think he could trust his uncle because he kept important papers from him after his dad passed. It turned out he was trying to help Cal's mom by signing over his mansion to her. A girl named Winter helped him from drowning in an oil container. But the gangster Sligo who put him there is her guardian. Should he trust her? She sees the drawings Cal's father gave as clues and recognizes one of them and leads Cal to the place she saw it, Memorial Park. This was a huge clue as it turned out it was a statue in memory of a relative that was in the Great War. Cal started to trust her but at the end of the book when the gangsters catch up to him, he thinks he sees her in the car. Was his friend Boges right that it was all a setup of her saving him to gain his trust and find his family's secret and treasure?

Trust is a good thing but you have to know that the people you trust are honest and good people. It also talks about how to have faith in people and trusting them. The book makes you be cautious about trusting people because you don't know if their intentions are good or bad. This issue can affect everyone and makes people question facts. My example would be the media, can we trust everything that the media says? He escapes both times.  Cal is set up by someone for the attack on his uncle and sister.  Not only is he on the run from police but also from the criminals.  Cal is always on the lookout.  Who can he trust?
