In early childhood education, concepts like disability and special needs are still widely used.
The Reggio Emilia emphasis on children having specific rights—rights to be heard, rights to communicate, rights to express themselves, rights to realise their potential, rights to choose their own path, etc.—highlights the concept of respect.
This idea of rights alters how we talk about children, interact with them, and perceive them, regardless of whether or not their growth corresponds to anticipated patterns.
It is a general principal that always prioritise the child before any description or diagnosis. The kid should always come first; it is far preferable to say "Doreen has epilepsy" rather than "the epileptic."
Children are occasionally referred to as having a disability, having a handicap, having a deficit, being special, having a distinct ability, and so on.
You are less likely to make a mistake if you put the kid first in your reasoning. After all, you are dealing with a human person who has many more qualities than the perspective that concentrates on what she cannot accomplish.

It discusses the World Health Organization's broad definition of health, the need for observing behavioral difficulties without judgment, and the responsibility of educators to document health concerns accurately. The significance of using people-first language, acknowledging children's rights, and fostering a supportive environment is highlighted. Educators' role as observers and collaborators in addressing developmental challenges is emphasized to ensure children's overall well-being and healthy development.
