<title>One 1950s fad for girls was to wear a man’s shirt outside their jeans. In high school, a soft sweater paired with a collared blouse was a smart look.People definitely dressed up special for formal events. For weddings and proms, young women wore fancy dresses like their elders. But clothing choices were quite a bit different for informal school dances. Many teen girls preferred full skirts, some with 4-inch hems. These skirts were often made of wool felt fabric in bright colors, including the world famous poodle skirt. The 1950s circle skirts were worn with tucked-in, tight fitting blouses. It was usually tied together with a wide belt, flat-heeled shoes and bobby socks or anklets.</title>

<title>Bright colors/patterns - Go bold! The &#39;50s were a color explosion.Full skirts or narrow skirts - There really was no in between. Skirts went mid-calf, and were either super fitted or super full!Halter dresses - Necklines got lower, and halter dresses became quite popular. You can find a lot of these around today!Short shorts - High-waisted, of course. No muffin top!Peplum tops - These shirts followed with the trends, highlighting a narrow waist.Stilletos - The magic of high heels was born! If you don&#39;t have any low heels of the 1920s, &#39;30s, or &#39;40s, I&#39;d go with a &#39;50&#39;s era costume.Oxfords - Always a more casual option, the oxford was quite popular in the footwear world.Typical &#39;50s makeup includes the cat eye and bright lipstick. Hair was typically short and curled, with a hat for nearly every occasion. The late &#39;50s saw more straight hair and ponytails. This decade is much fun to replicate, and gives you so many options by way of costume. You could go the poodle skirt route, or full-on pinup glamour. You could also pull out your best housewife, or go in the complete opposite direction with retro futuristic space-age stuff.</title>

<title>The fashion picture at home and abroad was defined by two basic points: the narrow line with its strong body-consciousness and the attention drawn to the hip line by a gathered waistband, and the broad swinging, youthful petticoat. Both tried to create a dreamy wasp waist, magically narrowed by a corset-the guepière-or girdle. In addition to suits and jackets, the shirt dress, with its casual, sporty cut, shirt collar, and cuffed sleeves, was a garment suitable for all occasions.</title>

<title>With the economic boom in the 1950s, glamour become fashionable once again and A-line and pencil skirts were very popular form-fitting fashions. Dresses in the decade would often feature stylish ruffles or lace accents and were usually knee-length or tea-length.</title>

<title>1953 ushered in a mood of sleek, slender elegance — at once young and sophisticated. Hemlines, waistlines and hairlines all grew shorter in 1953. Buzzwords at the time were “shape” and “sheen.”1957 was the year in which Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel (at age 74) became “an adjective in her own time.” Sort of like “Googling,” Chanel-isms were ubiquitous.</title>
