“Take a speculative leap in time from the recent Brexit victory that has shaken, deeply divided and forever changed the future of the UK.  The year is now 2020 and the newly elected Conservative-UKIP coalition government has just announced ‘The Independence Day Reforms’ that include the total marketisation of higher education. A growing UK student movement has launched a new wave of mobilisation to fight and reclaim their future… which role are you going to play?”

The workshop will bring the tactical creativity of international social movements to Somerset House, hailing the rise of a new young people’s political language.  The event in part will be inspired by 2011-13 Chilean Student Movement that combined urgent political speech and entertainment in their fight for the right to free education.

Unfolding both in physical and digital space you will explore what it means to be a political actor in the twenty-first century, where the interaction between cyberspace and traditional public spaces produces new strategies and mechanisms for social change.

This is a two-day experience: Day one will take you through a series of playful exercises that introduce the culture of the game and underscore its themes and structure. Helping you develop your character, skills and relationships with the others playing. On day two you will fully immerse in the game, acting as your activist alter ego.

Since its inception in 2009, Summer in the City has allowed attendees to network with one another and create valuable links, whilst also having the chance to learn and be entertained with our Talks, Panels and live performances. These activities, combined with our meet and greets, also allow our special guests to engage with viewers and personally thank them for all of their support over the years.

Supersense is a contemporary performing arts festival exploring planes of ecstatic experience.

Created and presented by Arts Centre Melbourne in association with peripatetic curator and performer Sophia Brous, Supersense presents a 3-day durational 'festival-as-theatre' where an immersive labyrinth of Arts Centre Melbourne's underground walkways, venues and performance spaces is transformed, creating an experience of wonder, excitement, curiosity and entranced surrender.

Supersense is devoted to exploring the many planes of perspectives of ecstatic experience. How do we achieve and seek out ecstatic states of being in a diverse and contemporary society? The ways we seek out transcendence speak to a collective instinct for precious encounters that take us into a place of revelation and transcendence – towards the ecstatic. The means through which we do this – through punk, devotional music, free improvisation, dance, movement and extremity – are what Supersense is all about, seeking out experiences of ecstatic wonder.

Supersense is a space for these contexts to be explored and above all enjoyed, perhaps giving rise to new planes of the ecstatic.

Each dome bears its own stylised leaf motif rendered in graphic simplicity, yet its centre dome is an interpretation of the tall Gothic windows and arching columns of Chapter House at York Minister, UK.

ARBORIA is created by Alan Parkinson of internationally acclaimed Architects of Air (UK) and is one of a series of Luminaria, which are inflatable structures designed to generate a sense of wonder and enchantment.

Touring Australia in association with Insite Arts, ARBORIA will exhibit in Melbourne only at Federation Square.
