Social justice in education means creating a curriculum that represents all cultures and diverse groups of students. Social justice in schools requires districts to adhere to the ISLLC standards. These standards are not the end, however and have "historically fallen short of providing concrete guidance for school leaders" (M. Scanlan & G. Theoharis, 2015, p. 2). The school districts must also focus on creating leadership within the schools as a way of encouraging social justice.

The idea of leading and creating a socially just school can be done so through stewardship. As Thomas Sergiovanni (1992) says, "Virtually missing from the mainstream conversation on leadership is the concept of servant leadership" (Sergiovanni, 1992, p. 273). Children will learn when they feel loved. How better to show love than through service? This type of leadership inherently creates a culture of social justice.

To achieve social justice we cannot continue to look at the world through one lens. White middle-class ideals and values are at the center of most agencies. This is a huge problem because not everyone has those same values and norms. "[there is a] tendency of educators to privilege the values, voices, knowledge and norms of white, middle-class families, thereby enabling this group to influence the educational process more than other families" (Wilson Cooper, 2010, p. 174).

These are two statements that a large majority of white people will still argue. But say I know it exists and I hate it. What do I do? I tell my students, and I believe myself, that one way to combat a privilege that you have that you want nothing to do with is to be an advocate and speak out. Be an ally. When you are being treated better than someone else, make it known that it is not okay. When you see someone being treated poorly, make it known that it is not okay. When you see someone standing up for their rights, stand up with them- join their cause because it's your cause too.
