This technique is self explanatory. You can see a prime example of effects within this music video. This is because the filter that has been used during post production isn't natural and looks more animated/like an effect. This technique is a unique and eyecatching way to gain the attention of viewers as it isn't something that isn't used frequently.

Chroma key is the term for 'green screen' within the media industry. Chroma key is a type of special effects/post production technique where two images are layered to give a different background. A prime example of this is within weather forecast broadcasts and in this music video. In this music video we can see that the artists are in space and are flying in space. This is clearly a green screen as it isn't something that anyone can just do.

Similar to camera movements, the camera angle differinciates depending on where it is put. For example it might be used at a low angle or at a high angle. In this music video we can see that the camera angle is constantly changing from a low to a high angle. The point of this is to have something different in the music video to keep the viewer hooked on what's happening/what the story is.

There are a variety of different camera movements that can be used in a music video. A music video may only use one type of camera movement or it could use a whole variety, it's ultimately up to the director. In this particular music video, there is a tracking shot at the beginning. This keeps the audience engaged and interested in what is about to happen as they're following what appears to be a small journey.

Multi-Image is a technique where multiple different shots are shown on the screen at the same time. In Taylor Swift's music video for her song 'Style' she uses it consistently throughout the video. This adds a bit of flair and creativity for the music video and will also help engage the audience and keep them interested in what's happening.

Cutting the beat in a music video is when the current shot changes to another shot at the same time that the beat changes. Before the beat changes, you can see the singer in various different shots leading up to the one which cuts the beat. For this particular music video this technique works because as the shot changes, the singer and the dancers all begin to dance in time and to the beat of the song. This is very engaging for the viewer and keeps them interested in what's happening.

It is where a song is created for the sole creation of advertising a brand which was the case for the song below "Glosses". However, there is also another way to use commercial influenced music videos. The other way to create them is to advertise another brand in a music video, regardless of whether the song relates to their product or service at all.

Sometimes, what's happening in the video may be completely different to the lyrics of the song itself. Generally, the purpose of surrealist music videos is to shock the audience to gain mass attention.

An example of this style of music video is Rihanna's song 'Disturbia'. The video itself doesn't have much correlation with the lyrics of the song and the scenes appear to be all over the place. Additionally, some of the shots may be perceived as 'odd' or 'strange' by the audience which gives it the shock factor.

Impressionist music videos are popular when the artist/band decides to use animation in their music video. The purpose of an impressionist music video is to entertain the viewer (as with any other video) but also leave them thinking deeply and intensely on what was going on in the video and why the artist/band decided to do that. With impressionist music videos, people have their own opinions on what they think is the purpose of the video, which is what the creator wants.

This style of music video is yet another self explanatory one. This is where the music video has a story going on in the midst of the song. An example of this is Taylor Swift's song "Bad Blood". When you watch the video you can clearly see that there is an issue which has caused 'bad blood', hence the name of the song. The music video then follows this story line to the end of the song.

Music videos that have a narrative are typically compared to films as they are generally different to other music videos with the cinematography they follow.

An interpretive music video is a style where is looks as though only one thing is happening in the video but it has a different meaning, sometimes the meaning can be something you don't notice immediately. Interpretive music videos give the viewers the ability to have their own opinion on what they think the video is about.

Rihanna's music video for 'Russian Roulette' is an example of an interpretive music video. This is because there is a fatal game called russain roulette but in the song, Rihanna seems to be singing about love. In this instance, it's up to the viewers to decide what they think the meaning of the song is about. Is it genuinely about romance or is it just a game?

Interpretive music videos are a good way to get viewers easily hooked and transfixed on what is happening on the screen. This style of music video can sometimes be difficult to find as not everyone will put a lot of thought into understanding the meaning of a video.

Live footage can be found in this video of The Weeknd performing one of his latest singles, "Party Monster". Using in concert and live footage for a music video is a simple yet eye catching way to pull viewers in.

Often, people don't want to see the same thing from every artist and so it's nice to see that artists are switching up the styles that they use for their videos.
