Regarding contemporary ministry, John encourages us to lean more into relationship than ritual. It’s less about “do this, do that” and more about abiding in Christ (Jn 15). Ministry today might use this to focus on authentic connections, small groups, mentoring, or other spaces where people wrestle with big questions like “Who is Jesus to me?” Discipleship through John feels personal, like Jesus specifically calls us by name, and so we are not just another face in the congregation
