Even in the bathroom displaying posters enhances literacy skills while children are using the potty or washing their hands. The step-by-step instructions poster is good for children to see and match their actions to the words that are on the poster.

Here at our jobs area children pick one job to do around the classroom. This promotes children to associate words with a task. They also are seeing their name in print and associating it with who they are. This helps children also learn common vocabulary such as leader, gardener, waste, librarian etc.

This is our song book. We sing one song everyday during circle time. This book is always available for the kids to use. They are able to the "read" the words and sing the song. This empowers the children and they start sing-a-longs by themselves.

This activity starts with the book "And Then It's Spring." Written by Julie Fogiano Illustrated by Erin E. Stead. The book is about a young boy starting garden at the end of winter and waiting through spring for it to grow. This reading center will happen in our garden where the children can sit on the blue blanket and enjoy the story. To compliment the story I have place fake flowers and pots in our mud kitchen for the children to explore planting their own garden. This story is great to incorporate vocabulary of the seasons, gardening and growth.
