The Earth is a constantly growing plant and as such the populations of the species on Earth will also rise. Among those with a rising population are humans. We are currently at about 7.5 billion people on Earth and that number is only projected to rise so the question is becoming how to produce enough food to be able to feed such an exponentially growing population? Well, one group who must quickly learn how to answer this question is the farmers. They are going to have to innovate and find new ways to be able to produce and output more goods. On this board, we will be highlighting 3 key ways we think farmers could adapt their farms to handle this coming rise in demand.

-Colby

Expansion:

One path that may be taken by some larger more higher end farms is simply expanding their farms. Doing this would include doing things like buying or breeding their animals to be able to produce more meat or milk, acquiring more land to be able to grow more crops, and hiring more workers to speed up harvests and lighten the workload in general. All these things would help to increase a farm's' output and therefore allow it to be able to get more food to more people. The only downside to it is all these things would be extremely costly which is why only bigger more well off farms could do this.

-Colby

A second path that could be taken by farms would be adapting to increase their farm's efficiency while reducing costs. Ways you could do this includes doing things like switching to a more eco-friendly power using things like solar panels to cut down basic costs, using more organic fertilizer which if you own a farm can be done using animal feces as exposing feces to fertile ground can help introduce more helpful substances that will help the plants go more, finally they could reduce their CO2 emissions in general. Climate change affects all things so if farmers cut down on their emission of carbon it will have a positive effect on everyone's farms and allow everyone to produce the elevated amount of food needed. All these things aren't too hard to do and could help farms a ton in the long run.

-Connor

Dissolving

The final solution we have come up with is directed for smaller farms which will struggle when they are asked to produce higher numbers of crops. Their answer would be to dissolve or sell out into a larger company who can provide them with more funds to act upon the previous 2 points. This acts on the principal of the competitive exclusion principle, if they can't keep up they will have to either join bigger companies or they won't be able to deliver.

-Connor

Conclusion

In conclusion the three ways farms could adapt themselves to handle the rapidly growing population we will see soon are expansion, efficiency, and dissolving. All three of these are viable ways to increase productivity in farms and help to grow more product and get more food out to the rising population. Farmers of the world will soon have to begin implementing some of these things if they want to keep the people of the world well feed and allow the progress of the human race to continue.

-Colby
