The manager agreed to it, but the cook took an entire meal, not just a sandwich. The owner considered this stealing and fired her, a very universalist option for a "theft" of only 50 cents (that she offered to pay back), which was reflected by the court's particularist solution to award her damages because it wasn't a very large offense and she lost her job.

The U.S. Congress repealing a law that put mentally ill people who received social security benefits on a background check system also comes from a universalist idea that all Americans have the right to own and bear arms, in opposition to the particularist idea that mentally ill people should not have access to guns because they could be dangerous to themselves and those around them.

The White House plan for foreign nationals from the countries that had been banned from immigration to give up the passwords to their social media accounts and cell phone data before coming into the country is a particularist solution, akin to how the 7 country ban was. A universalist would probably ask that all immigrants entering the country would have to give these up as well (in a very Orwellian 1984 "big brother" state kind of way, but at that point, who's to stop the government for doing it to citizens as well, like the NSA's whole phone call metadata scandal.

The Washington Supreme Court ruling against a florist who denied service to a wedding between gay people was a universalist ruling; that businesses should not be able to deny customers equal accommodations because of who they are.
