Magnetic Drives:

-          Use platters and read/write heads 
-          Are designed to be energy efficient and therefore cheaper to manufacture
-          More power draw during operation due to motor mechanism presence


 

Solid State Drives (SSD):

-          Use flash memory and have no moving parts
-          Can be more expensive, especially for higher capacity drives due to materials and technology manufacturing
-          Less power draw due to no existence of motor mechanism
