One way that scientists clean up oil spills by using three different methods such as using the cap way which is where they take a tank and put a cap on it to keep the oil in the tank but the bad part about that is that when the tank is full the oil spills back out. Another way was called squishing which is where they put cement in the tube where the oil goes so the oil does not get out. The last way was repairing it what they did was tried to fix it I think that is an ineffective way because they really did not know how they were going to repair it. The most effective I think was the squishing way because the oil would not spill.
I also learned that they use a lot of different ways to try to use different materials I think the best way that worked the best is the felt or the sponge. My group got most of the oil it was really fun.

Some ways scientists contain oil spills is capping. This is where you take a cap and keep it on the oil and it sucks it up to clean it and get it out of the ocean. There also is squashing it stops the ol so it won't go into the ocean. The last way is repairing it takes a long time and it will still be making a mess. They can also make a dome so oil spills don't happen that much. The steps to fixing the oil spills are 1. Ask 2.Imagine 3.Plan 4.Create 5.improve. Also Tehya his pled clean up an oil spill and took pictures of the oil spill. A fact is oil spills are harder to clean up than they look.

This way is both effective and ineffective because it only works temporarily. The next way is squishing which is effective because it stops the oil from making a huge mess. The last way is repairing which is ineffective because it takes a long time to repair and during that long period of time, the oil will still be making a mess. Also, when we watched Mr. Kramer's class I learned multiple things. The first thing I learned I learned was that an engineer is a person that uses their knowledge of science and math to make inventions that help the world. Second, I learned that the steps to create an experiment are ask, imagine, plan, create, and improve. Lastly, I learned that oil is less dense than water, so it will float when it spills.

One way that scientists fix oil spills is when they try to repair it. They also try to put a cap on the busted pipe. The last way that they try to fix oil spills is when the squash it. I would say that repairing is the most ineffective way because where they would try to fix it was already broken. I would say that the two most effective ways would be capping and squashing. Since squashing takes a couple of months to complete, we could do the capping method while the squashing method was being completed. Some other methods that Mr Kramer's class did where to use a rubber band to enclose it, use felt to remove the oil, and nylon also to remove the oil. However, they wanted to improve it by use more sponges and they also wanted to use a bucket to scoop the oil out.

a few ways that are effective to stop oil spills are capping and repairing. You first should try to repair it if it can be repaired instead of destroying it. Capping is because you can make a big strong one to stop all of the oil. Squashing is effective, but super slow. always do squashing last. When your cleaning up an oil spill, you have to use the engineer plan. Ask,Imagine,Plan,Create,Improve. Ask the question. Imagine the solution. Plan the solution. create the solution. Improve the solution.

One way scientists clean up oil spills is to put a big cap on the burst. This way works but the cap can only last temporary because a lot of pressure would build up and break the cap which would cause another oil spill. Another way is to build a fence or a wall around the oil spill so then they can work on the pipe and fix it, but making a whole new well would take months so then oil would keep spilling. Another way is to send robots to the floor of the ocean and try to fix the problem this would save lives of people because people can on,y swim 1000 feet below water and the oil spill is 5000 feet below. Oil spills will hurt animals and the environment thus is why we need to stop oil spills.

There are many ways that scientists can contain or clean up oil spills. One is to repair it. They do this by robots. This way is ineffective because the robots could not do it. Another way is capping it. How they do this is they put a cap on where the spill is and the oil goes up a tube and goes into a tank. This way is both affective and ineffective. It is affective because it does clean up the spill, but it is ineffective because when it cleans up the spill it doesn't clean it all up. Also because when the tank gets filled up it will no longer be cleaning the spill up it may actually be making it worse because when the tank does get filled the cap may come off and more oil will come out. The last way is to squash it. This way is affective because it works, but it takes months to complete. In Mr.Kramers class I leaned that it takes a very long time to clean up oil spills. Another thing I learned is that oil spills harm animals and humans badly. The last thing I learned is that you clean up oil spills with many things and some of them work and some of them don't.

Scientists and engineers can contain oil spills by building some type of dome to contain oil spills underwater, but it would take a while to build and the oil could spread across the ocean. Another way is to Build tubes that make the oil go into large containers to contain the oil, but if a scientist/engineer forgets to change the container the oil spill could spread. You can enclose oil with a giant rubber band, giant felt, and giant Nylon. You will still have a little oil left over though. A Native American named Taya used a broom to sweep up oil. You can also use a giant sponge to clean up oil, but like the felt idea there will still be a little oil left over. Oil is harder to clean up than it looks. Scientists/engineers use the ENGINEER strategy

1.Ask

2.Imagine

3.Plan

4.Create

5.Improve

A permanent way to clean up oil spills is to "squash it" this is a last conclusion because it will take a few months and the oil will get out while building it. Also, you need a way to clean up the oil spill without taking out much water. Plus, oil spills can harm animals and humans very badly.

3 ways that scientists/ engineers contain oil spills are Repairing the the damage that the oil spill has, but it might be beyond repaired, the second way is to cap it, capping the oil spill will have a little effect on the spill, but if the ship is full or the cap falls off, the oil will still go back into the ocean, the final way is to squash it, that means that robots go to the bottom of the ocean to fix the pipe, but it can take months to repair, but if all of the ideas don work, they will have to try again, they will never ever give up. Oil spills can hurt a big environment and a small one. It can take years to clean up all the oil with a cap,but the sea will still be covered with oil. Oil is lighter, than the sea,so that means that the oil will spread longer distances because oil can spread all the way to a beach on the gulf of Mexico,if we didn't have people to clean up the spill, the oil will spread all over the world, that why people have ideas to clean up the oil spill.

They could of used many caps so then they could get more oil out of the ocean quicker. Although, it wouldn't be the most efficient or effective way because eventually you will need many of themto be efficient, and once the job is done, its to be hard to transport them to an oil rig because there are so many of them. This would help by containing the oil and keeping it from spreading. They could then get the oil from the spot and then continue cleaning up the mess all around.
Also to prevent oil spills from hurting marine life they can build a fence around all the oil rigs so when an oil spill happens it is already contained. It would be pretty simple really. It might take some money but they will be able to do it. Also robots could do an analysis every day to keep all the oil rigs in check so if they see a problem they can alert the people there and fix the problem. We could us the engineering process to figure out an effective fence to stop the oil from getting out. It would help them greatly. Next, we could us a something to suck up all the oil that got away and keep the marine life safe. Finally, we could "slurp it" all up to keep it from getting away.

This is effective but, is only temporary and we want something that is effective and permanent. Another way is squashing it. This way is very effective and efficient but, it takes months to complete and that's risky and dangerous because in the time that they are building, oil will leak out in to the ocean. This whole process is dangerous for the ecosystem and people.
After the presentations I learned that the nylon was the best solution out of the three. I also learned that when scientist attempt to clean up the oil they also get a lot of water, which kills sea life.
