Instead of using these colors to create a portrait, I decided to use the range of skin tones as light rays coming from behind the silhouettes of birds. I also challenged myself to go outside my comfort zone and use a wider variety of colors (as you can see from the images above: starting with grey, then skin tones, and ending with colorful flowers).  On the other hand, when experimenting with texture, specifically in the architecture assignment, I found that I am my strongest when working with paint, rather than charcoal or pen. I have a higher level of confidence when working with paint that I lack with other mediums. I also wish that the charcoal would have created more of a contrast against the bright yellow paper; this is why I added in the splatter paint to make the yellow "stars" flow more smoothly.  I also feel that the book overall is a bit disproportional in comparison to the "sky". My piece was based off of Anahata Katkins work though I really worked on the composition in opposition to her pieces. At first I thought that I would use other colors and have the painting be a little more free flowing. Though to keep up with the repetition I decided to place the pots accordingly and use each plant in a way as to take up as much space on the piece. I feel that this was probably my strongest point because I am really letting the viewer look around the whole canvas. I have known for a while that I am not a very fast worker but this piece specifically took longer because of the range of colors used. In the future I think I should pick out colors beforehand so that I am not spending so much time going over and redoing parts of the painting. I knew that for my next independent project that I wanted to do a seascape, so naturally blue was a nice choice. I love the very bottom of the painting where I was able to create a sandy grey using only the blue, orange, and a little bit of white. I would consider myself a perfectionist when it comes to art and so I like to redo things until they look as perfect as possible, which takes a very long time. The first piece took me almost two weeks to complete. I believe this was because I wanted a particular color green that was hard to achieve. The very last piece on the other hand took me just under 4 days! I personally feel that this is a huge improvement and I think I even like my most recent piece more than the other. I have known since the beginning of the semester that I am most comfortable with and enjoy acrylic paint. I used this semester to refine my skills with the paint, learning how different colors mix and how water can wash it out.
