Dally is known to be the toughest and meanest of the group. It was ironic when Johnny of all people would be the one to stand up to Dally when he was being disrespectful to Cherry and Marcia.
-Another example of irony adds on to the last, as it was ironic that Dally didn't get upset, at least not directly at Johnny, but walked away instead when it was expected for him to become very angry and most likely beat up the one who spoke to him like that.

Rather than having the town split in two and having a never ending rivalry, the can all come the the realisation that Ponyboy came to, that no matter what side of town you're on, you still see the same sunset.
2. In the end, Dally thought Johnny died, leading him to the same ending he originally had, suicide by police. Johnny found that Dally died, now he was left alone to go home to a family that had never cared for him. Fourteen year old Ponyboy Curtis, sixteen year old Johnny Cade and seventeen year old Dallas Winston, part of a group of hoods who call themselves "greasers", rescued a group of young children on a class trip from a burning church. Johnny Cade and Ponyboy Curtis who are currently wanted for the murder of Robert "Bob" Sheldon as well as Dallas Winston arrived to a hospital in Tulsa late this afternoon. They were hiding from the police in a church on Jay mountain, where a group of students were visiting on a class trip. When they returned to the church they found it up in flames and heard that there were children stuck inside.  The original cause of the fire is still unknown, but due to the state of the church, it was most likely a small fire, possibly even a cigarette that went out of control. They entered through a window and rescued the five children stuck inside before any serious harm was done to them. The three boys on the other hand, were not as lucky. They have all been hospitalized, all suffering from smoke inhalation, Dallas and Johnny both with severe burns. Johnny was also hit by a large piece of burning wood, breaking his back and leaving doctors unsure of whether or not he will make it, and if he does, he will never walk again. A parent who attended the field trip, Jerry Wood says "They are the bravest kids I've seen in a long time" and Mrs. O'Briant says "I think they were sent straight from heaven." As for the murder of Bob Sheldon, Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade are claiming it was in self-defense, as Bob was attempting to drown Ponyboy. He, Soda and Darry all got ready to show the Socs they were just as good as they were. The boys put extra oil in their hair to show they were greasers, and they were proud of it. Darry thought it might be a better idea if Ponyboy didn't fight, seeing as he had lost weight and strength in Windrixville. Ponyboy tried to figure out why everyone fought, Soda for fun, Steve for hatred, Darry for pride and Two-Bit for conformity. He realized he couldn't think of a good reason why he fought other than self-defense. At the lot, Ponyboy looked at the difference between his outfit and Tim Shepard's. Their outfit had a leader, and were proud to be hoods, real hoods, Ponyboys was just a group of friends that stuck together. The greasers weren't used to having just skin fights, they usually used anything they could find. When the Socs arrived there were 22 of them and 23 greasers, the odds were in their favour. Darry and a Soc named Paul started the fight after a few snarky remarks, Ponyboy and Soda seeing Darry was ashamed to be on the side with Tim and the Brumly boys. The fight started and Dally arrived and helped Pony after threatening the nurse with Two-Bits blade. Ponyboy got a blow to the head and was almost knocked out after being kicked in by a Soc when the fight ended, the greasers winning. They won because one of the Brumly boys had used a pipe, which was against the rules. Dally grabbed Ponyboy and go in his car to take him to the hospital to see Johnny with the help of a police escort. They got to hospital and were told that he was dying. When they got in the room they told him about the rumble and Dally told Johnny he was proud of him which is all Johnny ever wanted.
