He was the first child of William Litogot Ford and Mary. His family were prosperous farmers and owned 91 acres of land. His father wanted hi m to become a farmer, but he wasn't interested. He showed his mechanical skills at a young age by fixing the equipment and made inventions to make his chores easier. He settled on a farm in Deerborn, but 1891 he had became a night engineer. When he was hired he was developing the first horseless carriage. He tested his engine on Christmas eve 1893 in the family kitchen. He clamped the invention on the sink provided a spark with household electrical current, and fed gasoline to the engine's cylinders by dribbling it in from a tea cup. It took Ford two and a half years to refine this crude engine and to design and build the vehicle that it would power. Even though his first business would end in economic failure the company let him put his energy to designing & building automobiles.  It soon failed, but he created a 4-cylinders, 26-horsepower racing engine and mounted it on the chassis, or frame, of his last company’s prototype. The crucial test of this new car came on October 10, 1901, in a ten-mile race just outside of detroit. Afterwards on june 16, 1903 he created Ford Motor Company.
 Ford is credited for inventing the assembly lines it was the first industrial application of the idea and it resulted revolutionizing making modern consumer society possible. He undoubtedly contributed to it’s development and approved of the idea and gifted the person responsible for perfecting it.  Ford realized his vision of the model T as a mass-produced consumer object for the common man. He doubled the pay for the average in the ford plants to $5.00. He also cut their working hours to 8 instead of 9. He saw this not just the right thing to do, but caused a good economic decision.  In a move he made worker's morale go up and created a new class of industrial workers who could afford to buy Ford automobiles.  He also was ahead of the game with physically challenged workers. He felt that if they were given a chance to work, they would work harder than other workers. He also gave an alternative to former criminals by giving them a chance to work in his company.

The U.S saw growth in the suburbs and the creation of  national highways. People were thrilled about being able to go anywhere anytime. Even though he had died on April 7, 1947 his legacy still lives on today.
