         <description><![CDATA[<div> <br><br></div><div>House of representatives:<br><br></div><div>-Can make and pass federal laws .it is a part of the legislative branch of the federal government.</div><div>-The house elects’ congressmen and woman that will serve a two-year term for their district. </div><div>-The house has 20 standing committees that each have different legislative jurisdictions. </div><div>-Laws begin as ideas. First, a representative sponsors a bill. The bill is then assigned to a committee for study. If released by the committee, the bill is put on a calendar to be voted on, debated or amended.</div><div>-If the bill passes by simple majority (218 of 435). the bill moves to the Senate. In the Senate, the bill is assigned to another committee and, if released, debated and voted on. Again, a simple majority (51 of 100) passes the bill.<br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Has the sole power to conduct impeachment trials, serving as jury and judge. (Since 1789 the Senate has tried 17 federal officials, including 2 presidents.)<br>- Senate the power to approve, by a two-thirds vote, treaties made by the executive branch.<br>-The Senate may also amend a treaty or adopt changes to a treaty.<br>-Senate adopted Rule 22 that allowed it to end a debate with a two-thirds majority vote--a tactic known as "cloture." In 1975, the Senate reduced the number of votes required for cloture from two-thirds (67) to three-fifths (60) of the 100-member Senate.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-The primary purpose of standing committees is to consider and recommend actions and propose policies in the functional areas under their jurisdictions, subject to final approval by the council. <br>-Standing committees are the only committees that can actively recommend a bill. They also set funding levels and keep an eye on federal agencies and the work they do. <br>-Before recommending a bill to Congress, standing committees thoroughly study and review it. </div>]]></description>
