Both Christianity and Islam sprung from the monotheistic Abrahamic tradition began by Judaism. All three of these religions were born in the Arabian peninsula and buck the trend of most popular religions that existed before by being monotheistic, meaning that they believe in only one god rather than several. Each religion also has sacred prophets, and one who stands above the rest. In Judaism it is Moses, for Christianity it is Jesus, and for Islam it is Muhammad. All were said to have, in some way, received revelations from the one true god.

Buddhism emerged out of the tradition of Hinduism in northeastern India, and began as a reaction to certain aspects of it. Both religions share a belief of cause and effect known as Karma, and a concept of natural law of the universe known as Dharma. Both also emphasize mindfulness and meditation, as well as holding a belief in reincarnation. Siddhartha, the founding figure of Buddhism, was raised in the Hindu tradition, much like Jesus (of Christianity) was raised in the Jewish tradition.
