For my first assignment, I was assigned to a group, namely group 4 to make a simple poster regarding on our chosen pillars of Islam topic, fasting in Ramadan.

By making this poster, I got more extra knowledge on why fasting is important and why Muslims need to fast. This certainly would help me in the future, Insyaallah. I also hope that I fast not only in the Holy month, but also doing optional fasting such as on Monday and Thursday due to the various benefits.

Study tips;
1. This may seems cliche, but this works really well for me, focus in class.. whatever you do, stay awake, eat mints or anything, i know that mostly students always fell asleep in class hehe so just listen to what the lecturer is talking about
2. I don't do notes because for me, it does not work.. I tend to copy back all the words in the textbook and it's really just a waste of time when instead, I could just read the text book and try to understand from it
3. Try to use the blurting method! Read the text book until you really understand about the certain topic, then try to write what you understand on a piece of paper without looking at the text book. Then try to look back what you missed or what you write wrong. Do this until you finally get all the points.

How to release stress;
1. Watch a movie! If I watch a movie, I will forget everything hehe
2. Talk to my mom because she's my comfort zone and she always have the right words to say to me
3. Do sports! I'll play netball in the evening or even walk around the campus with my roomies just to delay all my work and stress so that I can enjoy life a little

For my first semester of Usrah, I was assigned in a group consists of me, Zulfa, Hani, Sofea and Raneaa!

For our first task, we were told to do a poster on one of the pillars of Islam, which is fasting in Ramadan. We divided everyone's task very quickly and everyone did their part very well! I got to do the meaning and finding Hadith part. Also, doing some research on this topic was really fun!

For our second task, we also made a poster but on the topic of "adab" or manners specifically for our neighbors and society. We were curious at first, but after deeply research about this topic, it was really fascinating to know how much manners that we can practice and contribute to the society.

Although it was pretty awkward at first, but every chance that we get, I got to know them more in every meeting of our Usrah. It is nice to know and meet people from other courses because everyone has different perspectives especially on how do they balance studying and enjoying life. Everyone was also very cooperative and professional in doing their work. It is interesting to hear each other's different opinions too! I'm really thankful and happy to get teammates like them :)

After several weeks doing usrah, I realized that I'm lacking a lot of Islamic knowledge and because of that, I'm so grateful that IIUM gave me the opportunity to discover these knowledge with other people. So for me, that is a bonus actually, not only I get to know so much about Islamic things, but I get to know so many people from different backgrounds.

I also realized that I shouldn't treat people according to their courses or appearances because after all, we are all the same. In Usrah, we had a sharing session. I remember hearing random stories from some of my Usrah mates and it was definitely a moment to cherish because that is one of the moments that we actually bond together.

In Usrah, I was also able to increase my confidence level and also my social skills. I was always an introvert person, but in Usrah, it makes me eager to know more people and to learn so much more not only about this world but also the Hereafter.

From our next lesson, I've learnt so much on how to be khusyuk in performing salah.

From the 5 minutes of the class, my naqibah explained on being khusyuk is also considered as the most important element in performing any ibadah. One of the importance of having the khusyuk is that it becomes the main factor on whether our prayer is accepted by Allah or not.

Next, she also explained on the stages of khusyuk in salah:

1. Before performing salah
> We have to know Allah very well, and having the intention to do ibadah for Him is really important.
> Avoid doing major or minor sins.
> Read the al-Quran consistently and read al-Mulk before going to sleep.
> Minimize the things that distract us from contributing to the akhirah.
> Less laughs and less fights.
> If we hear the azan, leave whatever activity that we are doing and perform salah immediately.
> Take our ablution first.

2. When performing salah
> Knowing that the iqamah is the final signal to call us to pray.
> Read auzubillah minashaitan nirajeem (I seek refuge in Allah from the outcast Shaitan) before pray.
> Look at our sujud area and don't close our eyes to avoid us thinking about anything else.
> Imagine Allah and the Malaikahs are watching us doing the prayer.
> When we read al-Fatihah, we have to read it passionately because Allah is answering every ayah.
> Read all the surahs correctly and properly.
> Vary the surahs.

3. After performing salah
> Istighfar three times, specifically for our mistakes that we unintentionally did during our salah.

A story of Abbad bin Bisyr

This story of Abbad bin Bisyr which took place in the the war of Dzatur Riqa' is really amazing and should be an exemplary to all Muslims.

The story started after the war, when Abbad bin Bisyr and another companion was guarding the Prophet and his other companions while they're sleeping. Abbad told ammar, the other companion to sleep first while he guards. When Abbad thought the night is clear, he perform his nightly prayer. While he was reading quran, he was so passionate that he didn't notice a polytheist warrior lurks. He prepared arrows and pulled the bow that hit directly to Abbad 2 times. But, Abbad didn't even move and continue reading quran. The thirst time he was arrowed, he was already soaked in blood. Then, he woke Ammar up and Ammar was shocked seeing Abbad's situation. He then asked Abbad of why he didn't wake him up earlier and Abbad said "I'd rather cut off my life rather than cut off the reading of the Quran in my prayer."

This shows how much Abbad was khusyuk in his ibadah and I think this is how Muslims supposed to act in their prayers.

Fasting

In today's usrah, my naqibah taught a lot of things on fasting, some of the information that seems to be important to me are:

In surah al-Baqarah, 183
O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you—as it was for those before you1—so perhaps you will become mindful ˹of Allah˺.

- Every "يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ " in the Quran, we need to pay full attention to it because it's actually the words from Allah to prescribed something for us.
- Fasting has been prescribed by Allah even before the time of the Prophet.
- Fasting nowadays and fasting in past times is not the same as today, Allah gives much more privileges for us Muslims.
- The holy month of Ramadan is the month of Allah revealed the Al-Quran to the Prophet (nuzul al-Quran).
-As we know, fasting has been prescribed upon all Muslims but not all Muslims fast. Why? It is because of lack of iman.
- When fasting, iman must be tally with taqwa (a sense of fear towards Allah).
- We can also take the moral of sabr (patience) in controlling ourselves from eating, drinking and something that would break our fast.

In surah al-Baqarah, 184
˹Fast a˺ prescribed number of days.1 But whoever of you is ill or on a journey, then ˹let them fast˺ an equal number of days ˹after Ramaḍân˺. For those who can only fast with extreme difficulty,2 compensation can be made by feeding a needy person ˹for every day not fasted˺. But whoever volunteers to give more, it is better for them. And to fast is better for you, if only you knew.

-This ayah highlights the rukhsah for fasting.
- For example, we are given a rukhsah to not fast if we are travelling/sick.
- If we are currently travelling and still being able to fast, it is recommended that we fast.

In surah al-Baqarah, 186
When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond ˹with obedience˺ to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way˺.

- This ayah focuses on doas for people who fast will be accepted by Allah.
- If we doa, but Allah does not accept, maybe He will grant us our doa at a suitable time and maybe Allah wants to protect us from any harm or undesirable situations.
