Secret of her success
1. Enjoying Learning
 - Tutor, worked hard, good at language, and likes it
* 16 y/o - can speak 5 languages

2. Got attention because she was clever
King Henry liked spending time with Elizabeth

3. She was lonely
 - no friends
 - learning skills = could talk with people about those

 - Made herself Governor(not Head) of the Church of England

- Allowed priest to marry
- Church services and bibles in English
- The Catholic service from Queen Mary's reign changed
(strict Catholic did not attend the services but had to pay a fine - recusants)

Did the way work?
Although it pleased most of the people, extremist on both side was deeply unhappy.
Strict Protestants (puritan)
Strict Catholics thought that protestants were a danger to the religion. The Catholic Pope didn't considered Elizabeth as a actual Queen and excluded her from participating in services.

Because of this Queen Elizabeth was not really able to trust Catholic. (They could be plotting her death :O)
Made Catholics' life a little tougher
- Spy(Sir Francis Walsingham) - Secret agents
- 1580s - law - Catholic priests could be tried and exacuted
- 1581 - fines that recusants payed heavily increased (leave the country/end up in prison bcoz no money)
 
However, many Catholic priests continued to hold catholic services. Small group of Catholics were so mad that they plotted to kill the king(the Gunpowder Plot)

Parliament
King James also was not able to work with parliament well.
He needed Parliament but wanted them to agree with him about everything.

When Parliament refused to collect taxes, King James I sent all the politicians home for ten years :D

- People are fit enough to get a job but was lazy so tricked people to give them money
