Enjoying Learning <br></em>&nbsp;- Tutor, worked hard, good at language, and likes it<br>* 16 y/o - can speak 5 languages <br>(English, French, Italian, Greek, Latin)<br><br><em>2.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Edward VI - Protestant<br>Mary - Catholic<br>= Religious Chaos<br><br>Elizabeth - Protestant but wanted peace<br>-&gt; <strong>Religious Settlement (aka the middle way)<br></strong>To please Catholics<br>&nbsp;- Replaced prayer book<br>&nbsp;- Made herself Governor(not Head) of the Church of England<br>&nbsp;- Kept the bishops <br>&nbsp;<br>To please protestant<br>- Allowed priest to marry <br>- Church services and bibles in English<br>- The Catholic service from Queen Mary's reign changed<br>(strict Catholic did not attend the services but had to pay a fine - <strong>recusants</strong>)<br><br>Did the way work?<br>Although it pleased most of the people, extremist on both side was deeply unhappy.<br>Strict Protestants (puritan)<br>Strict Catholics thought that protestants were a danger to the religion. The Catholic Pope didn't considered Elizabeth as a actual Queen and excluded her from participating in services.<br><br>Because of this Queen Elizabeth was not really able to trust Catholic. (They could be plotting her death :O)<br>Made Catholics' life a little tougher<br> - Spy(Sir Francis Walsingham) - Secret agents <br> - 1580s - law - Catholic priests could be tried and exacuted<br> - 1581 - fines that <strong>recusants </strong>payed heavily increased (leave the country/end up in prison bcoz no money)<br>&nbsp;<br>However, many Catholic priests continued to hold catholic services. 'Priest holes' - Hide when officials cam looking for them.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>24 March 1603 - Queen Elizabeth died - lung desease<br>Queen Elizabeth's third cousin - James VI of scotland 36y/o<br>became king in England , James I<br>Tudor period -&gt; Stuarts<br>Successful king of Scotland.&nbsp;<br>Managed to prevent rebellion<br>Appointed royal judges to&nbsp; hold regular criminal trials<br>Weavers from aboard - better cloth - sell aboard<br>Encouraged mining (gold sliver coal)<br>keep control of the Church<br><br>*He believed in the divine rights of king<br>*He never washed, swore (picked his nose a lot)<br><br>Religion<br>1604 - met with the church leaders but failed to impress<br>Strict protestant were unhappy and left england<br>Catholic were angry because he ordered troubledome priests to leave England<br><br>Small group of Catholics were so mad that they plotted to kill the king(the Gunpowder Plot)<br><br>Parliament<br>King James also was not able to work with parliament well.<br>He needed Parliament but wanted them to agree with him about everything.<br><br>When Parliament refused to collect taxes, King James I sent all the politicians home for ten years :D<br>Then he asked his friends to help him with running the country and found other any to get money</div>]]></description>
