2-Dr. Funke’s videos were shown during the Class Teacher’s period in all classes across the school. This was followed by an interactive session with students sharing their views on ‘leadership’.

1. The principal, Mrs. Asha Alexander, introduced and discussed the Leadership Gemstones with all Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members during the weekly SLT meeting.

2. The Wellbeing Champion met with the Student Leaders of the Wellbeing Team to brief them about the Leadership Gemstones.

3. The Student Wellbeing Ambassadors developed and proposed a plan of action for February, which was subsequently implemented. Proposed Plan of Action for February as in the image above.

4. The following activities have been successfully carried out in classrooms, with updates shared with all students through weekly emails and social media.

To ensure widespread engagement, the initiative was introduced to all staff, students, and stakeholders through our weekly newsletter.

Each week, student leaders present the Quote of the Week to their peers, assign a Gemstone Task, and encourage student participation to earn house points. This fosters a culture of leadership, responsibility, and personal growth.

Additionally, a weekly staff quiz is centred around the Quote of the Week, reinforcing the theme among educators and promoting reflective discussions.

To visually represent their thoughts, students participated in the "Compassion Shoe" activity. Each student contributed by writing ways to show compassion on paper cutouts shaped like shoes. Some expressed their ideas through words, while others used symbols and illustrations to convey emotions and actions that reflect kindness.

The final outcome was a beautiful, showcasing their collective ideas and reinforcing the message that compassion is about walking in someone else’s shoes and understanding their feelings.

1. Two enthusiastic student groups from TWS students recently explored the Leadership Gems Framework – We Evolve at WSD and The Wellbeing Conference at Westminster School, Sharjah. Engaging with peers across the region, our students reflected on what it means to lead with a purpose, clarity and empathy. They engaged in discussions surrounding key values such as reflection, integrity, compassion, and adaptability. Our Head Boy, Ayesh Latheef, was a part of the Student Leader Panel at Westminster Sharjah, where he shared insights on maintaining a balance between academics and extracurricular activities.

2. Family, Food and Faith – A Leadership Gems Ramadan Special

We at TWS are also launching My Family’s Ramadan plate – a photo and reflection challenge. This initiative invites families to share photos of their healthy Suhoor and Iftaar meals, enjoyed with parents and grandparents.

Other actions taking place are our annual Ramadan Boxes that our students prepare for our wider school community, our Quran/Hadeeth competition which have all been linked to the Leadership Gemstones.

On the to do list: Working on bringing this to life with the student council and student leaders by creating a "Living Assembly" concept, where students actively engage with the theme throughout the week. For example, after introducing the theme in assembly, we could have a student-led challenge, interactive displays in common areas, or even a digital reflection board where students can share their thoughts and actions related to the theme. This would help extend the impact beyond the assembly and encourage real-life connections.

Last week, our school was transformed into a vibrant celebration of colour, music, and tradition for our annual Cultural Day! Organised by the Student Council and led by our Head Boy and Head Girl, the event showcased the incredible diversity within our school community. Students and staff proudly represented their cultures through traditional dress, food, dance, and displays, creating a joyful and inclusive atmosphere that highlighted the beauty of our global community.

The theme for this day tied into adaptability - the Gemstone theme for the month - as we asked families to adapt their daily routine in order to have breakfast together as a community.

Parents were called in for a meeting with the school doctor, wellbeing lead and school counsellor. Parents were counselled by team and external referral were made. Follow up will be done regularly by GC/DSL. Accommodation plan will be developed and implemented for these students and the staff concerned will be trained to support in this regard.

Here’s what we’ve implemented so far:

• Weekly Gemstone Sessions: Students participate in sessions focused on key wellbeing themes such as self-regulation, empathy, and confidence.

• Interactive Materials: I’ve developed and shared a range of Gemstone resources through our school newsletter, making it easy for families to stay involved and reinforce the messages at home.

• Student Videos: We’ve created short videos featuring our students sharing what they’ve learned through Gemstone and how it’s helped them in school. These have been shared in assemblies and in the newsletter to raise awareness and celebrate progress.

• Visual Displays: Gemstone posters and student-created reflections are displayed around the school to keep wellbeing visible and central to our culture.

• Staff and Tutor Involvement: Form tutors have been incorporating Gemstone themes into form time discussions, helping to embed the language of wellbeing into everyday school life.

This initiative is already making a noticeable impact, with students more openly discussing emotions and demonstrating greater empathy and confidence. We’re excited to keep growing the programme and deepening its reach across our community.

Ramadan Radio – Celebrating and Sharing During the Holy Month

During the month of Ramadan, we launched Ramadan Radio as a student-led initiative to celebrate the values of reflection, community, and giving. This project provided a platform for students to share their voices, learn from one another, and engage with the wider school community in a meaningful way.

Here’s what we accomplished:

• Daily Broadcasts: Students recorded and shared short audio segments each day during Ramadan. These included Qur’an recitations, reflections, Ramadan facts, du’as, and personal messages about what Ramadan means to them.

• Student Leadership: The project was entirely student-driven, with support and coordination to ensure a smooth production schedule. Students from different year groups collaborated to plan, script, and record the content.

• School-Wide Engagement: The broadcasts were played during form time and shared in newsletters, allowing both staff and students to tune in and take part in the spirit of Ramadan.

• Inclusivity and Awareness: Ramadan Radio also helped non-Muslim students understand the significance of the month, fostering respect and appreciation for diverse traditions and practices.

This short video highlights moments from just a few students across different grade levels, showing how they have begun exploring the meaning behind each gemstone through classroom activities, discussions, and everyday actions. These early steps have helped lay a strong foundation for what’s to come.
Starting in September, we will take the next step by embedding the Leadership Gemstones into our whole-school curriculum map, in alignment with our core values. Students will also take part in monthly assemblies that bring the gemstones and core values to life-building a consistent, school-wide approach to leadership development.

We’re excited to continue this journey with intention and heart, helping every student discover the leader within.

Grade 4 students participated in the activity “My Respect Portrait” to reflect on self-respect. Each child drew or pasted a self-portrait and wrote an “I am” message, highlighting ways they respect themselves. The portraits, displayed under the theme “When I Respect Myself, Others Respect Me Too”, fostered respect and positivity.

Through the Respect Chain, each student adds a shining link of kindness, creating a living symbol of unity. With the Respect Pledge, voices join in promise, weaving fairness, empathy, and care. Together, these acts transform values into action, nurturing a classroom where respect connects every heart.
