I chose this event because this was a social and political event. This event was a social event because it empowered the slaves to fight to escape because now freedom was a guarantee if they escaped. It was also a social event because it made the war about freedom for the slaves. It was a political event because once they made it a fight for "freedom" other europation countries could not side with the confederacy due to the fact that the public opinion in Europe was against slavery.

The Missouri Compromise of 1820

I chose this event because it was a social and political event. It was social because It split the nation in two, by creating a wedge between the north and south. Another reason being that now the north and south had a visual representation of their differences. It was a political event because now due to the fact that the nation was split in half the south is not gonna be pleased if the north tries to pass laws that affect slavery. A final reason why this is a political event is that it showed how divided the country was over slavery so Congress tried to compromise to manage this issue.

I chose this event because it is a political and social event. It is political because this image shows that there is enough people who don't like or support this newly passed slave act. It is also political because these types of cartoons are only the beginning of the north rebelling against the slave act. This is also a social event because people are now having to go against there own morality because the law says you have to return slaves. Another reason why this is a social event is because of people are taking the time out of their lives to make these types of cartoons then it shows how most of the northerners are not gonna let this stand.

I chose this event because it was a political, social and a little economic event. This event was a political event because it took place during a public vote to decide whether the state would be pro or anti slavery. Whichever side the state chose to side with would gain more political power in the US. This event was a social event because people died fighting due to tensions rising and voter fraud from both sides. This event was also a bit economic because once the state decides whether to be anti or pro slavery the economy will change to suit the people and the law.

The Battle of Gettysburg of 1863

I chose this event because it was a social event. This was a social event for many reasons on of them being, that many people died during this battle from both sides. This battle was a decisive one that helped the Union start to get a bigger edge against the South. Another reason is that this battle ended the Confederates invasion of the north by crippling its army. Finally this battle was mostly important because it heavily boosted the morale of the Union and because the Confederates lost this battle they now had no hope of international help .

Use of Railroads and Telegraph as wartime technology

I chose this event because it was a Technological and Intellectual event. It was an Intellectual event because the use using the telegraph to pass along war information or strategies was revolutionary it really helped give the North the upper hand against the South. Another reason being that once the North realized that they could use the railways to transport soldiers and supply's they had basically just taken the lead from the south. Which then helped them turn the tables on them, because now they could transport people and supply many times faster than the South. It was a technological event because this technology was new and the South was a bit behind because this technology wasn't as widespread as the North was.

I chose this event because it was a social and political event. This event was a social event because the Bureau helped many freedmen and poor whites get on their feet. Another reason being that many southerners did not like that their taxes were being used to help pay for this program that built schools homes and churches for the blacks. This event was political because the money of the people was being used to fund this program. Many people did not like this program because their money was being taxed and basically given to the blacks.

I chose this event because it was Social and political event. It was a political event because now a new group of "Americans" which were the Freedmen were allowed to vote. This event was also political because with now African Americans (Freedmen) being able to vote now different political leaders will be chosen due to the large population of Freedmen. This event was a social one because now the African Americans had the right to vote like the whites and many people did not like that which will cause conflicts. A final reason being that this Amendment empowered the African American community by them getting more rights.

The Black Codes 1865-1964

I chose this event because this event was social and political. This event was political because the south imposed new laws on black people only and it caused segregation. Another reason why this event was political is because the Souths politicians passed laws that basically made the freedmen slaves again but under a different title. This event was social because it made the Freedmen into second class citizens. These codes caused the freedmen to have to face many unnecessary difficulties that were only caused due to white peoples prejudiced and racism.

Compromise of 1877

I chose this event because it was a Political and social event. It was a Political event because the south agreed to accept the newly elected president if the North made a compromise with them. Another reason being that after this compromise the south was more politically free to do what it likes. This event was a social event because when the North removed the union soldiers they basically abandoned the southern freedmen. No one was now In the south to force them to in force the new amendments and to keep the peace with caused grave problems for the freedmen.
