He practiced dentistry and during that time married Jerusha Hills by Rev. Thomas Gallaudet , later he changed career paths several times. Amos Kendall and Skinner had political issues because Kendall didn't like him teaching colored children established Washington DC school; 1856-1857; caught fire during political issues because Skinner wanted racial equality. Kendall took over the school after Skinner moved away.
He also ran his second school, instruction of colored deaf, dumb and blind children in 1857-1860. During the time of that school;1858, Dr. Skinner was helping fugitive slaves across the border to Canada using the Underground Railroad. Many of the children were children of fugitive slaves. During that time the Skinner family had to relocate because of the pressure, they moved to Trenton, New Jersey and set up the third school. The school was ran from 1860-1866; after Skinner died the school was burned due to political issues with Kendall.

-Kendall donated 2 acres of land to Gallaudet.

-Kendall took over Dr. Skinner’s school in Washington D.C.

-5 foster kids from Dr. Skinner was placed under Kendall’s care.

-Fired Dr. Skinner for teaching a black girl.

-Kendall himself hired the school’s first superintendent

Amos Kendall

Amos Kendall was one of Dr.Skinner's acquaintances until Dr.Skinner started teaching a deaf colored girl. Amos Kendall accused Dr.Skinner of child abuse and malnourishment. Amos Kendall was a slave owner and was racist. Kendall didn't like that Skinner was teaching a POC girl. Kendall had falsely accused Dr.Skinner because he was racist. Kendall was rich and had connections in the capitol. He was friends with Andrew Jackson( the former president from 1829- 1837. He had been helping the president with the Anti-slavery attacks/protests. Everyone knew him as the manipulator of his lies and deceit and of great intelligence. The two acres that Kendall donated to Gallaudet, he had previously had tried to sell it but no one was interested in a homely property. Gallaudet felt insulted that he had gave him used property he didn't want. After that Kendall's reputation was only going downhill.
