know - this week i learnt some important skills that i’ll need leading up to level 3 media. first is how to crop out clips and make sure the viewer sees the most interesting things so that it doesn’t get boring. I now know where to put all the clips that I’ll be using video which would be the bottom left of the screen where you can also put audio clips.

do - this week we done a short horror movie. To get the clips onto are premier pro we had get Dave’s USB and put it onto are downloads and just in case we lost the clips we saved as well. The next thing we did after that was put the clips in order of what we thought looked right. If there was ever a clip that was slightly too long for the viewer and got a bit too boring then I would crop a bit out just to make sure the tension from the movie wouldn’t go. I also put kids singing as the background music as I though the it went well with the horror vibes that it gave off. At the start and the end of the movie I faded the audio in then out when it got towards the end.

show - we showed are work on a group padlet wall where we stated are roles and also shows who's in the group and what they do.

improve - to make the interviews more dynamic i should have put more clips in between the start to the end of the interviews as it would've given a better idea about what their course is about and what they do. i should've also implied it in my short horror movie as seemed to look a bit rushed at points. I noticed this when their wasn't much tension building up to the part when things went terrible for the girl and something that could also help would be to make the music louder if the victim was to get spooked out by something.

know - This week I learnt how to setup for an interview and doing it in a way that seems professional to the viewer.

do - This week I did shot for are promotional video on the a subject that the group would like to do. my group chose to do it on gaming. For this we had taken a few shots of the students working and what they're working on and we filmed this with a DSLR camera. We involved some of the techniques we gathered from the Dave in the technical workshop. for are interviews that we did for are video. We gathered a group of students and also a teacher just for a better descriptions about what they think about the subject as an overall. The questions we had to avoid asking were a yes or no questions as it wouldn't explain much to people that are aspiring to go onto the gaming course. the setup the group and I thought of was to place two DSLR cameras around the people we interview. These cameras were placed on top of the tripod so that it could be steady when were filming it.

show - we showed are work on a group padlet wall where we stated are roles and also shows who's in the group and what they do.

improve - i could position the camera better when doing the interviews as it could make it look slightly more cinematic to the viewer. i could try editing the clips together as it could prevent stress between the are group and i'll also lean new skills and techniques in premier pro.

know - this week the things i learnt in the technical workshop were with the boom pole were having your Legs shoulder width apart, Arms over head, Shotgun Microphone directly pointed down on actors, Shotgun Mic to be at a 45 degree angle and holding the butt end of the boom pole. the other thing that i also leaned when doing the short news report was the clapper board. the clapper board has three words on the clapper board and this is what they mean. 'Scene' is the scene you are filming. 'Slate/Roll' is each time the camera position has changed.' Take' How many times you have taken this shot. from this week i also learnt that diegetic sound is sound is a noise which has a source on-screen and They are noises which have not been edited in, for example dialogue between characters or footsteps. Another way to know what diegetic sound is actual sound in the environment. the opposite to this is non-diegetic sound and this where a noise which does not have a source on-screen, have been added in through editing. For example, music, voice over, sound effects. On diegetic sounds are often used to add drama to moments that would be silent without it.

do - this week we done a short news report about the horrors of living in Harlow. we planned this video using a 2 sound operators and one had the boom pole, camera operator, clapper board and an actor.

show - we showed are work on a group padlet wall where we stated are roles and also shows who's in the group and what they do.

improve - I will try more ways of using the boom pole in my videos and I’ll have to use a variety of equipment if I want all my shots to be/look professional. The reason I think this looked more professional is because everyone stuck to their role and did their best and if it wasn’t up to a decent level we would do it again but I still think I can improve as I haven’t used a wide range of equipment yet and to do that I’ll need a bit of experience before.

know - this week i had learnt the effects of having a sound operator in the group. to get a clear sound from the actor there is a piece of equipment called the boom mic and to use this you have to measure the distance between the microphone and subject and they must be carefully controlled. The mic must be as close as possible without any chance of getting in frame. to get all of this you needed to have voice recorder attached to it so that you can then edit it whenever you get onto the computer.

do - what we did this week was a short 2 minute video on sound and to get a sample of what it's going to be like when we did some practice in groups of five(2 sound operators, camera operator, actor and a director) and the actor had to read 2 paragraphs about the dangerous and crazy things going down at the Harlow college and David gave us are lines. to make it easier for the actors job we printed a piece of paper with the lines on it. I also had to get into another group for are interview video where I happen to be camera operator. we had an interview already and discussed where we are going to do it which was the performing arts area. however a unfortunate turn of events and now we cannot do there anymore.

show - we showed are work on a group padlet wall where we stated are roles and also shows who's in the group and what they do.

improve - the next time we do a short video with a sound operator i think the boom microphone would have to be closer just so the voice can be clear in the the video. the location that we pick cannot have an echo as it is hard hear what we are saying. the setting needs to be different just because this this video that we shooted didn't look even slightly believable or realistic

know - i now know faster and efficient ways on making short videos. there was couple of apps that were used for this and those apps were Voice recorder, Garage band, iMovie, Speaker studio. the first app i wanna talk about is voice recorder and that it is a great app and I also think that it is an essential for doing media. The name speaks for itself as it does voice record you and it’s good because of how accessible it is when you can just it’s on your phone/iPad. the next app i wanna talk about is garage band and this app is is amazing especially when you figure out all the easy shortcuts they have to give for your project, runs smoothly with less hassle for example copy and paste, zoom in, zoom out. iMovie was hard for me to understand what to do as there wasn’t any tutorials. Though when I found out how to use it I thought it was very neat for making movie trailers. Titles and transitions look very professional and could also be made to look like advert you might see on your device. the last app that i used was Speaker studio and this app is similar to voice recorder as it features some of the same things on this app. However, this one is for audio tracks that can be played back and these may often be used on TV shows.

do - in groups of 5 we did a short interview about are favourite movie . in the video we had to include lighting using reflector or LED lights. we answered several questions asked by someone in the group.

show - i showed are work on a group padlet wall where we stated are roles and also shows who's in the group and what they do.

improve - what i need to do to improve in the next time i make i video with lighting is keep it consistent throughout the entire video. otherwise the viewer might find it bit weird when the reflection is being used at the start and then it it randomly goes off half way through the video. next time I hope to use more equipment and experiment with different things other than LED lights. i need to edit the video next time as i didn't have enough time to do it unfortunately.

Know: the activity that helped me out the most was the technical things with the camera as i now know a couple of tricks and one of them was to keep the camera still while moving without a panel. one of new things i also know about being in the group that i'm happy with was that It’s helped me be more confident in front of the camera and also helped voice my opinion in the groups. I’m able to be confident in my group because we seem to have no problems in the task. The new technical skills I gained were a high angle, a low angle, birds’ eye view and a worm’s eye view.

•Do: this week we did a small trailer to show what we do at Harlow college. we did this video with just a DSLR camera and a tripod but unfortunately we couldn't use the new equipment such as the panel that can be used on top of the tripod. my group did things that made us think on the spot like when we zoomed on toilet doors but that didn't matter as we was doing as a task. after we had finished are video we talked about the things that we learnt from Camera Operating.

•Show: I've showed my video on showbie which had to be at least a minute long. this is where we were experimenting with the new things we learnt about. my group tried doing things similar to the examples we had gotten from Dave.

•Improve: I definitely will use both technical knowledge and understanding and with these skills i will improve my videos in the future but to do this i have to be consistent with the shots. this will make it less stressful for my group and especially editors role. i also had realised when we were putting the video together was that i need to improve on my editing skills and my creativity to match Alistair and one way would be watch videos similar to the way Alistair on YouTube and I know this because he told me who inspires him on YouTube.
