During that 30 minutes students are alone and unsupervised and able to explore and experience the good, the bad, the ugly and the interesting with no one watching, well almost no one watching, their friends are there, their partner in crime, their friend to help clean up the mess or the whatever. 

Jason Reynold’s book Look Both Ways captures the moment the bell rings and what happens as students begin their walk home. It is told in 10 blocks, these 10 blocks represent different socioeconomic areas around Lantier Middle School. In the book we see inside the lives of some students and what they are dealing with, overcoming and forced to endure.
