I think that there is a very important clue on page 13 about Joe Starr. Actually, I don't really think it's a clue, but a red-herring. Usually, a clue about someone the main character doesn't have a good feeling about, or seems fishy that comes right at the beginning of the book is going to be false to throw the reader off track on guessing who did the crime. Do you agree?

I think the Colonel might be a suspect, (even though I think he is kind of like Mo's dad) because he was described as kind of scary, like on page 8, when Mr. Jesse says "Disturb the Colonel?" "No! Heavens no," and gasps as if frightened by the thought of his presence. Also, on page 1, Mo describes hugging the Colonel as like hugging a turning plow, which implies that he could be harmful and somewhat dangerous. Though these facts contribute to him possibly committing the murder, I really don't think it was the Colonel, because he seems to attached to Mo, and kind, (even though he's a bit strict.)

He may not commit the crime, but I think Joe Starr will have a big role in the crime, especially since he is, (like Mo) a detective.

On page 76, Anna Celeste Simpson is mentioned for the first time. "Miss Anna Celeste Simpson, and I'm pleased to meet you." She says. "My mother and I drove by Mr. Jesse's a little before four o'clock. We came into town early because we wanted to go to the Piggly Wiggly- plus I needed a trim. Unlike some people, I can't tolerate split ends." I think that Sheila Turnage purposely sets up Anna Celeste Simpson's personality this may to make her seem like a suspect. She may for all I know be one, but I don't think she is actually the one who murdered Mr. Jesse. I think this is the same type of distraction as Joe Starr. Although, I do realize she will probably pose a problem for Mo in the future during her investigation, I think she will just be there to sort of annoy her and make it more difficult for her to complete her journey and her detections. I believe Anna Celeste Simpson's name also has a part in her annoyance to Mo. It is quite long, and instead of just introducing herself as "Anna" she says her full name to make herself seem more important. This probably makes her a bit spoiled, and that is why she does not know how to treat Mo. Her mother must be having a really hard time taking care of her, but I understand her just wanting the best for her. In conclusion, I think Anna Celeste Simpson is a bit of a red flag and is probably freaking Mo out right now, considering the whole town is in the midst of an investigation, but in the end, I think the murder will have been committed by someone either extremely close to Mo, or one who does not know Mo at all. Who could it be??????????

Miss Retzyl. Why on earth would Miss Retzyl like Starr if he is so intimidating and bad? Since she is a school teacher, and he is not very kid friendly, I don't think they will make a good pair. On page 55, she (after Mo crashes into her) does not get mad at all, and says "Are you alright Mo? Did you hit your head?" As if it was her fault and felt sorry for Mo. This compared to strict and mean old Mr. Starr does not match. Not only is she great and kind on page 55, but on page 133, "I could almost see why Miss Retzyl might like him." This shows that she is very kind, and maybe that Mo is starting to realize that Starr is not a bad guy. But I think she still kind of resents him, which could be foreshadowing to a later argument between her and Starr. After all, the chapter title is, "Stay away from my crime scene." I can't say she is suddenly BFFs with Starr. I think this information might lead to a clue about how Mo is going to try and break up the relationship between Miss Retzyl and Starr, and it will not turn out nicely. Mo will probably learn her lesson and not do anything like it again.

"Miss Rose barked out sleeping assignments like the Colonel himself..." This quote on page 210 is a big clue that reveals a lot about Miss Rose and Dale's entire family. It started with her changing personality. Everyone in Dale's family is extremely different! Dale is always scared of law enforcement, Miss Rose can be shy and scared of the world, then come out and be strict about sleeping arrangements, and Lavender too. Lavender just kind of leaves his family to work on cars, all because of his dad's drinking problems. Not to mention, Dale calls his father by his first name, "Macon" and is always thinking about him in negative ways. This makes me wonder if Mo is actually better off not knowing who her family is.... But, this could lead to a clue because (maybe) Miss Rose could be further involved in the crime. (Maybe she knows something that Mo and Dale don't know yet...)

I have been asking myself for the entire book the question of who committed the crime? Now as I reach the book, the suspense increases. On page 217, though, it seems as if there was no murder at all. Mo, and Miss. Rose, and Lavender and Dale are just relaxing, having breakfast, and talking about old times. It was interesting to read about how their normal lives are, because during most of the text, Mo and Dale are in a sort of abnormal universe. With all that crime going on, it was hard to see what Mo's interests and daily activities were. Even though this does not really contribute to the main idea of Three Times Lucky, I think it is important to mention what Mo would be doing if there was no murder in Tupelo Landing.

For instance, the mystery of the Colonel's past; how fitting that he was really a lawyer! I find that in many mysteries, there are actually multiple mysteries, some barely related to the others. The main mystery of course in Three Times Lucky would be "Who killed Mr. Jesse?" But there were many others, like Mo's past, (who is Mo's mother and where is she?) and many other questions that express other characters in the story, not just Mo.
