Under each event there would be a summary of what happened as well as a link to the official press release by the D.O.J . The short summaries of the hate crimes are effective at telling you everything you need to know about what happened. The statistics are accurate and easy to comprehend. Getting in to some of the actual hate crimes listed, I think that all of them are obviously horrible. I think that maybe from 1980-2000 hate crimes were at their lowest. In the 1920s there were several hate crimes especially against black people. The most notable incident is the tulsa race massacre. The tulsa race massacre is most likely the most violet and deadly hate crime to date. A Black teenager named Dick Rowland entered a building on South Main Street. As Dick enters the elevator the elevator operator, a white woman, screams as Rowland fled the scene. Rowland was arrested the next day and the town speculated that Rowland raped the elevator operator. The residents of Tulsa were enraged and according to the red cross 1,256 houses were burned with 36 people dead. After the riot the charges were dropped and Rowland was held in jail for his own safety and was later let free where he would flee Tulsa for his own safety. ]]> 2022-01-04 15:25:01 UTC https://padlet.com/colegoodnow2023_1/4vuduzgg65mz5awq/wish/1974441794 How does this compare to the 1920s? colegoodnow2023_1 https://padlet.com/colegoodnow2023_1/4vuduzgg65mz5awq/wish/1974442357 On February 23rd 2020 black man Ahmaud Arbery was killed by 3 white "vigilantes" in Brunswick Georgia. The department of justice has ruled that this was a hate crime caused by color/race. The men who killed Arbery claimed that they thought he had just committed a burglary and that was their reason for killing him. Footage was released of Arbery looking around a building under construction. He did not commit the burglary and was killed by the 3 convicts shortly after.
