I would be surprised if those sayings weren't a global phenomenon. And that is for a reason, comments such as "[...] Limit Migration and people in Germany will have more access to housing again" (own translation) or "Why should you construct housing for people who no reason to be here?" (own translation), to be found under a post about housing shortages in Germany posted by the "Tagesschau" on Instagram, are absolutely not rare. Not to mention the frankly disgusting comments to be found under news posts about climate activists or protests. Why are comment sections of news such a magnet for people with the most questionable views imaginable? Nowhere else is such a density of climate change denial, conspiracy theories - popularly paired with antisemitism - homophobia and the other big players in the discrimination game to be found. And why do all those people use nearly the exact same argument and the absolutely exact same tactics? How can it be that reasonable people, who according to all statistics make up the majority of Germany and most other western countries, are perceived as to be in the minority in these places? And how can it be that this seemingly does work, making at least some people doubt to some degree the scientifically proven?
