A desert happens when rainfall is less than 50cm/year. Although most people believe that deserts are very hot, there are both hot deserts and cold deserts.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Cactus - A cactus adapts to the desert by having spines instead of leaves. These minimise the surface area and reduce water loss by transpiration. The spines also protect the cactus from animals that try to eat them.<br>Saguaro - One way that the Saguaro adapts to the hot and dry climate of the desert, is by storing water in its stem.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Symbiotic Relationships</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Parasitic - A flea is a parasite on a hyena. The flea benefits by drinking the coyote's blood, but the coyote, by losing blood and acquiring discomfort and potential disease, is harmed.<br>Commensal - An example of commensalism in the desert biome is a hawk building its nest on a saguaro cactus. By doing this, the hawk benefits from the cactus and the cactus neither gains or loses anything from this.<br>Mutualistic - A desert bee and a cactus are in a mutualistic relationship. A bee depends on cacti since they're a major food source. And a cactus depends on bees to pollinate them so they can continue to reproduce.</div>]]></description>
