Dear learners,

this is the activity for next lesson. The methodology in class will be cooperative work.

We will start with a very quick oral revision of vocabulary words related to animals. This vocabulary was presented in class two weeks ago so most of students should master it.

Then, we will start with the activity itself.

First step: Children are organized in small groups of 4. They are given the worksheet and they must complete it all together. They must make sure that everybody in the group understands the activity and writes the same answers correctly. Pupils must be explained and understand that this activity is not about velocity. By contrast, it is about helping each other and succeeding all together.

Second step: After the corrections, they are organized in pairs and complete the same worksheet.

Third step: After the corrections, pupils complete the same worksheet individually.

Last step: Before finishing the lesson, self-assessment will be devoted some minutes. The teacher will read several statements. The students must think and stand up if they agree with the sentence or stay in their chairs if they disagree.

For instance, the teacher says “I have helped my group” and the students who believe that they have helped the others should stand up whereas the ones who did not collaborate with their groups or pairs do not stand up.

The teacher will read slowly statements such as: “I have helped my group”, “I have let the others help me”, “Because of my contribution, some members have improved their English and/or completed better the worksheet the second and/or third time”, “I have been polite to the members of my team”, “I honestly believe we have been a good team with our weaknesses and strengths”, “I can perform better with my partners than on my own”.
