There are collective activities motivated by a purpose like it's shown in this videoclip. The kids are struggling with their identity. Mrs G asks them to work on an exercise. She would say a statement and the kids would have to move a step forward. That's a way to show them that they all struggle and they are not so different after all.

Reflection:
Mrs G is very clever when choosing the activities to work with the students. I believe that what she does in the movie with her students, is something that I would want to do with mine. However, each social context is not the same. The thing I take the most from that teacher is the way to adjust to their reality.

Erin Grunwell deals with a culture that is the opposite of hers. More than once, she tries to get closer to her students but fails. 
Many of us would feel frustrated if we were in Erin's position. What Mrs Grunwell lives is not much different from what any teacher could possibly live on a certain moment of his/her life.
There are many tough classes in our daily routine. Students may not live what we live, may not have the same childhood that we had so that makes a difference. A difference that can be tolerated and respected.
A good educator is not the one with outstanding students. In the movie we can find how the teacher helps the students with the struggle with tolerance, empowerment, education, violence, family values and morality.
