Sounds came from the kitchen downstairs,too

It’s really annoying!”

Some stuff, such as a globe, some books, and drawing tools, was piled on the dresser, and even more was scattered across the bed. The shelves on the wall held Felix’s prized collection—postcards and stamps from different countries.Felix moved the stuff off the bed and sat down. Wrapping himself in his favorite blanket, he called out to his brother in the next room, “Hey, Pete, turn that awful rock music down! I just want to take a break.”

  Felix was a boy obsessed with horror novels.Hence,he was filled with contentment,for he could place his collected skulls on the shelf for display in a brand new room.Also,he piled the eyeballs he accumulated in the bed,what a creepy view!

  At the night,there was some weird sounds coming from the kitchen downstairs.Simultaneously,the cold air was drifting in from the next door.Nonetheless,Felix didn’t care about it and just moved the stuff from the bed and sat down.

  After a few minutes,he wrapped himself in his favorite blanket and called out to his irritating brother in the next room.Then,he said “Hey,Pete,turn that music down”.It seemed like Felix minded the noisy his brother made instead of being influenced by the frightening environment.

Magazines with strong men covered his dresser, and his shelves were full of empty milk cartons—he loved drinking milk while working out. Wrapped in his favorite blanket, he was about to rest when loud funeral music started playing from the next room. Annoyed, he shouted, “Hey, Pete, turn that music down!”

Sweat, milk, and burnt eggs—this was his new life.

The smell of food made his stomach growl. Downstairs, he heard a spatula clatter and his mom giving instructions.

"Pete, turn it down!" her yelled, but the music got louder. Annoyed, he rolled over, listening to the rain.

Felix grabbed his cologne and took a quick sniff. It smelled crisp, like fresh wood and citrus.

Dinner was almost ready. He stretched, glanced at his collection, and headed for the door.

Air flowed in from the next room, carrying a dampness mixed with a horrible smell. Felix wrinkled his nose—rotten fish. He groaned. It must be coming from the kitchen downstairs. Maybe someone forgot to throw out the trash, or seafood had been left out too long. The stench clung to the air, making his room feel even stuffier.

Trying to ignore it, he listened to the rain tapping against his window. The rhythm reminded him of Jay Chou’s The Seventh Chapter of the Night. The melancholic melody fit the late-night atmosphere perfectly.

His room was cluttered. Clothes, books, and random trinkets piled on his dresser and bed. Among the mess, a heap of loose change caught his eye, scattered across his desk like a tiny treasure hoard. He had no idea how it got there—probably leftover coins from his pockets.

With a sigh, Felix pushed some things off his bed and wrapped himself in his favorite blanket. Just as he was about to close his eyes, loud music blasted from the next room.

“Hey, Pete, turn that music down!” he called.

No response. Felix groaned, burying his face in his pillow. It was going to be a long night.

Suddenly, the air came from the room next door, and the noises came from the kitchen downstairs, too. The room was filled with a strange smell.

Fallen leaves flew into Felix’s room and piled on the dresser, and even more leaves were piled on the bed. It’s one of Felix’s habits because he likes the smell of leaves and the feeling of lying on them. Shelves on the wall held Felix’s prized rocks, which were shaped like animals. For example, the biggest one was a monkey-shaped rock, and the smallest one was a rock that looked like an animal’s popo. Felix moved the leaves from the bed and sat down.

He wrapped himself in his favorite blanket, which was red, and called out to his brother in the next room, “Hey, Pete, stop imitating the sound of birds.”

"Breakfast is ready!" their mom called. Felix and Pete exchanged a smile. In that moment, Felix felt it—this new house might just become home after all.

Felix sighed,shaking his head. Some things never changed.

The air smelled like a mix of things: his neighbors were having a barbecue, the scent of grilled meat drifting in through the window. Downstairs, his mom was baking cookies—chocolate chip, of course. But the loudest thing in the house was his brother Pete, who was blasting heavy metal music from the next room.Felix looked at the bed, piled high with boxes, and smirked. He knew exactly what was inside—letters. Tons of love letters from girls at school. With his good looks, guitar skills, and killer voice, both boys and girls in school fall for him. His guitars were lined up on the shelves, a sign of his passion for music.

Sighing, he wrapped himself in his favorite blanket, then called out, “Pete, turn that music down!”

No answer. Typical. Felix just picked up his guitar and started playing. If Pete wasn’t going to turn it down, Felix was just going to drown him out with his own tunes.

Just as he started to relax, an awful stench crept in. Felix winced. A second later, he heard it—plop.

He groaned, pulling his blanket over his face. "Seriously, Pete?"

The smell from the bathroom next door was unbearable. Even the rich aroma of stew from downstairs couldn’t overpower it. His room was still a mess—anime figures crowded his dresser, while his bed was buried under bubble wrap and a black velvet pouch that jingled when he moved it. Shelves above held something far more valuable—stacks of neatly arranged cash and small gold bars, gleaming under the light.

Just as he tried to ignore everything, Pete's music blasted from the next room.

"Hey, Pete, turn that music down! And light a candle or something!"

The volume lowered slightly, but Pete didn’t answer. Instead, another plop echoed through the wall.

Felix sighed. It was going to take some time to get used to this place.
