The most important holiday in Vietnam is TET (Lunar New Year). It happens in January or February. Before TET, we clean the house and prepare special food like bánh chưng. On TET, families gather, give lucky money to children, and visit relatives. It is my favorite holiday because I can spend time with my family and enjoy delicious food.

In Vietnam, we don’t traditionally celebrate Christmas as a major holiday, but in big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, you’ll still see decorations and people enjoying the festive spirit.

Our biggest and most important holiday is Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year. It usually takes place in late January or early February. We celebrate by cleaning our houses, preparing traditional food like Banh Chung, and visiting relatives. Children receive lucky money in red envelopes, and we also go to temples to pray for a good year.

Personally, Tet is my favorite holiday because it brings families together and gives everyone a fresh start.

Christmas is also celebrated in Vietnam. Besides being celebrated at churches, many shopping centers and streets also hold Christmas events. My family is not Christian, but every year we usually go to the church in Ông Đình, a nearby area, to join in because it feels like a festival held at temples – very joyful.

My favorite holiday is Tết (Lunar New Year). A few months ago, I had a long Tết holiday with my family. Before Tết, we clean the house, visit ancestors’ graves, make bánh chưng (a traditional rice cake), and buy sweets and flowers for offerings. My father bought a very big peach blossom tree, but because it was cold, it didn’t bloom until after Tết. During Tết, the flower buds were still closed, and not many flowers had bloomed yet.

During Tết, my family visits both sides of our relatives to give New Year’s greetings. Afterwards, I hang out with my friends and go to the temple to draw fortune sticks. If you have a chance to visit Vietnam during Tết, I’ll take you around!
