It is claimed that their is to be authenticity, but also brands this new restaurant as ‘innovative’ and ‘creative’ although it will be mostly generalizing and stealing from already set Asian cuisine. All from a white man appropriating and simplifying the Asian community and all the culture and food that falls under it. Many different Asian groups on social media cry in outrage of Gordon Ramsey’s idea on “Asian food.” With the unspecific cultural name Lucky Cat, has made many different people across the twitter platform upset as he generalizes Asian food with Asian stereotypes. Lucky Cat of course can come across as offensive to many customers, as it references to the fortune cat that only represents very few Asian cultures. There is also disapproval of a white man capitalizing off Asian cuisine. There are many dishes Gordon Ramsay could create, but by doing this he takes money from the Asian businesses who clearly and specialize highly in these fields, such as in Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese cuisine. For Gordon Ramsey to not only generalize the cuisine, but to be outright challenging the already established and popular Asian restaurants has sparked only much more backlash. As Vivienne states on her twitter, “how are you gonna open an “authentic” asian restaurant without an ASIAN CHEF?” Which ethically, goes against, offends, and hurts the Asian community. Nobody wants a white man, from Britain, although who is a highly regarded chef, to be creating a restaurant that does not correctly represent him or all the generations of people who have worked hard into developing ‘Asian’ food. Setting these two, even if fallacious, could sway many readers into whatever point that is being made.
This could easily be applied to visual elements as many visual elements could also be easily translated to written elements. As historians and art consumers could gather whole stories on singular pieces of work, writers could easily put their writings into visual elements.
