         <description><![CDATA[<div>This video taught me that stimulus intensity differences must reach a certain "quota" in order to be noticeable. This answers why a flashlight is significantly more useful outdoors during the night compared to the day. It has little influence on our daytime perception as our eyes and brain have already been exposed and adapted to the environment's brightness. However, the same light the device projects at night immediately sticks out to us because of how different it is compared to the surrounding darkness. I am excited I learned about this topic. This is because I can use this knowledge to prevent wasting electricity.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I also discovered how motivation can manipulate perception. By wanting an event to occur I can send a false signal to my brain telling me that it did. If I am waiting for a package next to my front door I occasionally open it way too early because I was confident a heard a knock. This topic honestly leaves me concerned because it puts into question whether or not I should trust my judgement especially my "gut feelings". I may want to double or triple check my original perception before making decisions.    &nbsp; &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Body Response: Vital Organs Emergency </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I did not realize how incredibly versatile the human body truly is. After assessing the extremely low water supply and relentlessly hot conditions, the brains of Shannon and Matt McGough take control of their body temperature by requiring any remaining water to be redirected to essential organs including the kidneys, heart, and lungs. The tradeoff to this is that outside organs such as the skin, Toung, and eyes are left dehydrated. This survival story absolutely astonished me. Shannon and Matt endured the greatest trial of their lives: over a week of being stuck in the deep Australian desert. Victories over tribulations such as these are excellent examples as to why seemingly ordinary people are capable of performing extraordinary feats.   </div>]]></description>

         <title>Matt&#39;s Hands</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Matt Gingrich successfully piloted the chopper thanks to a plethora of senses, but one of the most critical ones came from his hands. I learned about the layers of hand sensors and how they cooperate to complete a greater objective. Surface sensors feel softer connections while deeper sensors are designed to take on more compact situations. Both sensor types share information with the brain via nerves. Finally, the brain responds by instructing the hand's (at least 4,000) motor nerves on exactly where to move in the specific moments. I feel overwhelmed by this lesson because there are so many moving parts in my body that I can't even wrap my mind around yet. Every day, science seems to discover something brand new I had no clue about.&nbsp; &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Sweat Limit Test</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Through this athletic experiment, I was shown although two pints of sweat is the daily standard for the majority of our population, we can double that amount when need be. This was revealed when a man performed a treadmill run. Not only was he coping with the mass amount of heat he was generating, but the room was heating up too. This eventually pushed his sweat glands to their very limit. I feel safe after learning about this because I now know our bodies treat their cooling systems as one of the top survival priorities. As long as we continue to hydrate we will continue to have the failsafes keeping us from death.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Nerves and Insulation</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The second half of this video presented the reason how Matt can adapt so fluently during a high-stakes emergency. In the background, his nerves are using electricity to communicate with his brain in a timely manner. Layers of fat serve the purpose of protecting these nerve signals. The nerves would disrupt each other without this insulation. I feel optimistic about these findings as it is an impressive display of quick and critical thinking. Two additional facts I learned are that it is possible for a nerve to grow at least three feet long and nerve signals have been recorded traveling around two hundred fifty miles per hour. This is proof that humans are always using their nerve cells to at least some degree and that the brain is not the only smart body part.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</div>]]></description>
