Lights for day scenes

I imagine that most lights in the play be pretty predictable amber in the days outside, white for artificial lighting inside. This play isn’t really dramatic, it’s about the mundanities of life to have too eccentric of lights would really take from the portrayal of this very normal town.

Whenever it’s night in the play or a particularly emotional scene, most of the rest of the stage lights will be off save for white lights highlighting Emily and George (And purple for the stage manager) to highlight their profound emotional connection.

Whenever the stage is on stage (even in extra roles) they’ll have a purple spot on them, representative of mortality and loss. In the extra roles the spot will be much lighter to the point to be barely perceivable.

I’d think that Emily can get away with the same hair style for all of the play except for act 3 in which she’ll need an aged hair wig.

I imagine the stage manager as this sort of out of time embodiment of loss. And a lot of loss in the following years of the play is from WWI, hence the trench coat, and a couple of slashing scars on one side of their face from the war.

The cemetery would be created by a couple of chairs and lighting. Each chair would have a character lying on the chair to represent them in their grade.

George is an ultimately kind hearted young man. Buy he's a bit of rascal along the way. George's character is an analysis in the ways by which change and are changed by other people. His growth into a kind and compassionate man is indicative of the ways bt which we all change.

Emily Gibbs

A kind and compassionate young woman. Her character is a tribute to the ways we change those around us and how much we care about them, that more important than our wealth and possessions is the time we spend with the people we care about.

Stage manager

A physical representation of loss and the affects that has on the people they care about. They are a time displaced character by the nature of the story, they wear a trench coat and have a bullet graze scar on their right cheek due to being emblematic of world war 1.
