Netiquette is known as online etiquette. It is extremely important for me as a soon to be professional to have proper online etiquette because I have to be well informed and cautious while using the internet to teach my soon to be students the proper way to navigate and be safe on the internet. Students have their eyes glued on technology so it makes sense that there should be someone who can monitor their searches and teaches them the correct and polite way to use their resources. It is important to have proper netiquette in our personal lives especially when it comes to email. Emails should have proper grammar and spelling as well as intended tone and appropriate manner; not all emails are private.

Weir, L.

Being level-headed before making any post is difficult if you get caught up in the moment. It is important to be mindful of a post because once you hit send, you can never get your post back; no matter how many times you try to delete it. Not many people understand this, therefore, how could we expect children to?
It is important to teach students that they can not take back what they said because they regret it. Making follow up posts or trying to delete a post may get them into a deeper hole. It's important to me because I have made a post reply too quick in the moment and lost a lot of friends because of it. If I understood what was happening or got monitored before I posted, maybe things would've been different.

Weir, L. (2008, August 13).
Behaveyourself.com: Online Manners Matter.

It is a little difficult to recognize humor and sarcasm when talking to someone face to face. It is even more difficult to recognize humor and sarcasm when reading it in context. If it is a more serious website, there won't be much use of sarcasm, but if you are reading a review, humor and sarcasm are easy ice breakers and a way for the author to connect with the reader. I chose this netiquette because most people don't know that others don't understand some forms of humor and sarcasm.
It is important to teach students to be careful with humor and sarcasm online because they might trick the reader of their post into thinking that they meant something else than they intended. It is also important for students to realize that they can use more humor or social media, but it won't be appropriate to be sarcastic in an e-mail to a professional. Every action has a reaction and I can't emphasize that enough.

7 Rules for Online Etiquette. (2015, August 26).

Citing your sources is one of the most important things to know when it comes to netiquette. Citing a source is important when you use someone else's research to further prove your point Giving someone credit for the work that they have done is common knowledge, but some people don't know how to properly cite.
It is important to teach students to properly site their sources because they need to understand that if they use someone else's work without giving them credit, they will get in trouble. Citing a source has become easier over the years because there are websites that will format all of the information for you.

7 Rules for Online Etiquette. (2015, August 26).

Respect should be given to everyone in person, so why should we treat people different behind a screen? It is important to know that privacy settings are available on social media, search engines, and certain websites for our safety. If you can not access a page, don't try any loop holes to get the access. Some things are meant to be kept private. Passwords and personal information can sometimes be shared online so it is important to know how to hide and keep secret most of your information.
Students should understand that the internet is a endless portal of access to information that easily searched on a search engine. Students should know that it not respectful to copy and paste a private e-mail or to share another persons information online. If they share something that is not supposed to be shared, there will be consequences.

Weir, L. (2008, August 13).
Behaveyourself.com: Online Manners Matter.

Cite everything. Is the first thing I will tell my students. I would further say that if the words or image wasn't their own unique thought, they should give the other person credit. Even if they were to get an idea from something they researched, they should cite that source. I would also explain that in different classes, teachers want work cited in different formats. But by sharing with my students that they could gather information from the website they used for research and plug it into a website such as www.citatinmachine.net, the website will format the citation for them in the correct APA, MLA, OR Chicago style.

It is challenging to tell a classroom of students to cool off before responding to messages in anger. This is because it would be more effective if I were to demonstrate it.
As an example, I would set up an e-mail chain with a few other teachers that would put in an email that they didn't want me to bring food to the lunch because last time it didn't taste good. I would express that I was upset by their comments. Before typing anything I would tell my students that I want to talk to them about how I was feeling and if they had any advice. After we discussed all of the options I had I would reply to the e-mail calmly and ask the other teachers to bring in the types of foods that they do like so I could understand them more.
I would conclude that talking about how I felt was a good way to collect my thoughts and choose the right words to reply back to my friends.
